The way he seamed it the Long Arm wasn't needed. I don't know the details of the seam, I was labor not lead at that point. The marine canvas places, though, have the Long Arm machines.

Would you consider a DIY repair?
Mine was not mildewed, but I tore off the flaking vinyl or coating and replaced it with Eternabond 6" web seal. This is the stuff that can be painted, although I don't plan to paint it. The 50' roll was about $70. I also bought the prep spray but don't think I really needed it.
Here is what it looked like before I started:

I opened the awning about a foot and peeled the vinyl off and cut a reasonably clean edge with a box knife. I cleaned it from the ladder but to apply the Eternabond, I worked from the roof.

I thought it turned out fine and will last several more years since it is protected with roof tape which should be more sturdy than the vinyl.

Yeah, and I'm jealous! But these speciality machines take up a lot of room. So since I don't do a bunch of it anymore, I guess I'd better behave?

But those long arms sure make it easier.

EMD360;
Now that's a novel way to fix it.

How long ago did you do it? Or was I not paying attention?

The edge of the awning we renewed had turned to crinkled brittle "plastic." It was starting to tear along the mounting track when we got the coach, then a thunderstorm extended that tear (at the front) and made another tear starting at the rear of the track. So in our case, the part that formed the cording which slides into the track was the part that had to be replaced. The first foot or so of fabric was so dried out that we replaced about 18" of the awning, cording to solid material. We bought only a few feet of TopGun fabric and pieced the replacement weather edge/cording piece. Even pieced, with seams in three places, the repaired awning slid in easily and stayed put.

Can anybody recommend an awning repair/replacement service in the Orange County, CA area? There are many awning parts and material suppliers but few repair/replacement services advertised on websites.

I think DAS26miles had his awning fabric replaced at a Camping World for a pretty good price. He was happy with it.
I just did the awning repair with Eternabond before the rally, couldn't take that mess in public! But turned out one of my neighbors said he got a great price on a new super slide out awning from the awning repair truck at the rally. I think he said about $600 for the material and $250 for the labor and it was a 16 foot slide about 4 ft of material maybe? But it took 3 guys about 2 hours to install so he thought he got a great deal and it was a beautiful repair.
So go to a rally?

$600 for 4' of cloth? I sure hope it was 'something special'.

Maybe I'm just getting old and 'out of touch'?
or NOT,,, hit the clicky, that's for a whole nother' canvas!

clicky

If I'm going to spend more than about $50, I'll spend the $140 and get a Whole New one. No seams, no old tech material (maybe not pertinent), I've got to wrestle with it the same amount, and I'd just as soon deal with a new, clean one as an old dirty one. Just say'n.

OMG thanks to all for all the wonderful advice on this!

For us as do it yourseflers I like the idea of that web seal stuff - seems pretty simple. I will look into that.

Do the RV stores sell that or should I just look on line?

EMD360, j-d and anyone else, what if I tried this method...

I have the same problem that you did j-d, the very edge of the canvas which slides into the track attached to the rv I am not sure about the integrity of that, because the fabric under the vinyl covering is very moldy and there are a few small holes in some places, plus the corners of the canvas near the track have holes, so what I was thinking of doing is cutting off maybe about a half foot to a foot of awning on the edge nearest to the mount track on the RV, and then just double side the last half foot or so of Eternabond 6" web seal - stick two pieces of it to the canvas top and bottom, and then use two pieces top and bottom, stick that last few inches of the web seal to itself, then fashion a new track out of the eternabond with one piece, put some kind of dowel rod or cord on the inside of that piece, around the cord or dowel, to slide into the track.

What do you think? Would I need to stich a seam for the track - I would think not because it is an adhesive but what are your opinions? I am wondering if that adhesive is strong enough to both stick to itself and when the awning is pulled out, would it hold around the cording or dowel without pulling apart near the cord or dowel?

I think you can buy Eternabond products much less expensively from places like BestMaterials, and there are probably others.
Sounds like you're asking about making a whole new edge, full length of awning, with EB tape around a cord to slide into the track.
My guess is that you wouldn't need to sew next to the cord, the EB would stay "stuck shut" and it'd hold to the awning fabric if top and bottom were clean and dry.
But... Would the made-up edge be thin enough to slide back into the track? Would EB slide along the track its full length?
And... If you want to lap pieces of EB to get the width of the awning back to spec once you cut the old edge off... Would the cost of that much EB approach the cost of a new awning panel?
