Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking about doing.
j-d wrote: My guess is that you wouldn't need to sew next to the cord, the EB would stay "stuck shut" and it'd hold to the awning fabric if top and bottom were clean and dry.
Great! Just one question there do you mean clean and dry before applying the tape?
j-d wrote: But... Would the made-up edge be thin enough to slide back into the track? Would EB slide along the track its full length?
Don't know never have done this. Anyone reading this ever repaired an awning in this fashion?
j-d wrote: And... If you want to lap pieces of EB to get the width of the awning back to spec once you cut the old edge off... Would the cost of that much EB approach the cost of a new awning panel?
Not sure on that one I will have to do some number crunching.
Another alternative I was thinking about - what if I were to just go so a store like Jo Anne's fabric and made a canvas from scratch using just plain old cotton duck...this would be no problem sewing on a home sewing machine which we have. The only question I would have with this scenario....are there some sprays or treatments we could use on cotton to waterproof it?

I think DAS26miles had his awning fabric replaced at a Camping World for a pretty good price. He was happy with it.
EMD360, I paid $161.80 for the awning, $70.55 for shipping and only $60.50 for labor using a half off installation coupon at Camping World. Total was $308.63. Had it installed a year ago and have only opened it once since. It was ordered from the original manufacturer with same color and quality that came with the MH.

Those numbers are pretty reasonable, from what I've been able to locate on line. Although the 'shipping' is/was a bit extra compared to free 'shipping'. They probably won't install 'customer' parts, so you're at their mercy, If you need them to install, and for $60, I reckon they'd get to install.

I think the EB would work OK on the top of the awning, even doubled to stick on each side of the existing vinyl. The webseal is about the weight of heavy canvas and will remind you of canvas but with that supersticky backing. It must be applied on a clean and dry surface. I did not roll it as is usually recommended for a hard surface application just pressed it into place.
The best prices are at Best Materials and USA Roofing Supply--even with shipping. Not cheap and not as good as a whole new piece, like DAS26miles had installed!
I think the $600 was because the guy's awning was SO wide. It was at least 16' wide and the material is probably more expensive the wider it is. I may have misheard his prices too though--that happens! It was nice to know he was happy with the service at the rally.

If you can do it yourself you can get the replacement material, shipped free for half of that. Just FYI,,,,,..... Do a google search, you'll see.
I frequent RV Parts Outlet in Tualatin, Oregon (south of Portland); they have replacement materials for all brands of awnings. Our awning fabric is all brittle, not just the first wrap. I'll replace the entire thing this spring and will report back on the experience.
