It's perfect and only 55,000 km so 35,000 miles and camper is loaded with options .Asking $ 32,000 .
The only wrinkle is the price of gas with the big 360 is scarry for the traveling we plan on doing .
Am i better to keep looking until i find a decent 318 dodge .
Is there a big difference in MPG between the 318 and 360 and what is the most durable problem free engine of the 2 ?
Thanks for your help .

The MPG or engine choice is not your main concern with that rig I expect. What year is it?
The 360 seems to be a common used engine.

IIRC, the two engines are essentially the same, just a difference of bore and/or stroke. MPG shouldn't be much different, maybe 1 mpg. _Do_ read the FAQ's for the B forum here, paying special attention to the part about the importance of the test drive.

I fully agree but not as much in my view as the purchase price and condition of the unit in real time. The MPG difference between these two engines are meaningless when looking at the owning/operation cost.
That is a nice RV option in my book because you can park it about anywhere and not trigger the NO RV rules at WM, etc.
MPG is a real factor as where to buy an RV or not. After deciding to buy/drive an RV MPG is a NON ISSUE because all are heavy drinkers.

Bob do you have high mileage on that 2002 Freedom with the 360 ? Talked to an owner of a Dodge 360 that had to get motor job at 60,000 miles . Maybe its just a lemon or the way he drives . Didn't know him before today . He lives in same city .
I'm doing my dd on this . Thanks for the comments so far .

We used to have a 96 190P Roadtrek with the little 318 and it was fine except it was just a wee bit underpowered IMO for that heavy a vehicle. I always wished for the bigger engine. Particularly in mountains, that 318 would make it OK but it was hustling. Both engines have been around a long, long time and are proven.

As a former Dodge dealer mechanic, I can tell you both engines have been around a long time, and should work well. I would choose the 360 (we have one in our "B"), because it will work less to move you. The 318 is at the edge of what it can do and will work harder. Mileage should be the same. Your mileage will be more affected by how you drive than any difference in the two engines. BTW we get 14-15 MPG with our 20' American Cruiser 360 at 60 MPH. A 318 won't do any better, just work harder at it. If you are really concerned about mileage, Have a vacuum gauge installed (easy), and keep the needle showing high vacuum, won't take long to figure out where the gas is going.

Hi,
We have a 2002 LTV Freedom 2a with the Dodge 360 engine. Our mileage has varied from a high of 17 on one trip to 12.5 mpg at the worst. With the recent addition of 10% ethanol in almost all of our gas available in the US, our mileage has averaged closer to 13 to 13.5 mpg. We usually cruise about 60 mph---faster would undoubtedly increase fuel consumption. Also, the vehicle handles better at that speed.
