We have a 08 Big Country, 3055. Just got home from a 65k trip 'snow birding'. Noticed a lot of movement in the rear view mirror betweem pin box and front cap of the rig. While unloading the rig, noticed 'trim' & wood panel in front closet bowed. Re connected rig to the truck and the 'bow' increased. Took to my dealer, found the frame around the pin box cracked and cracks on left side frame rail under the bed room. My dealer contacted Lippert,(maker of the frame and pin box)and they were sending a 'repair kit' to be welded in place.
Now the question: Will this be 'safe' to travel with? As stated we dop 'snow bird' in the winter plus use the rig in the summer for shorter trips.

Any answer you get on here will be pure speculation PERIOD.

What does Lippert say about a warranty after the mod?

If you experienced harsh ride or chucking and bucking, perhaps a new king box with air ride would be of benefit to cushion the jolts and soften the harshness...to prevent a re-occurance?

5th wheel pin boxes from high end manufacturers such as MorRyde, TrailAir, Demco and Fifth Airborne act as a buffer between the tow vehicle and the trailer, reducing the impact of shock and chucking.

But at any rate, if it's repaired by a quality blacksmith/frame weld shop, it will be stronger than the original by far!

My posts shouldn't be taken for factual data. They are purely fictional, for entertainment purposes and should not be constituted as actually related to scientific, technical, engineering, legal, spiritual or practical advice. Amen.

Lippert says the frame is out of warenty, (more than two years old). Dealer says the same about any warenty from Heartland. Sounds to me that Lippert knows about this from other 'claims', as they said they would send a 'repair kit' consisting of bigger gusset's to be welded in place.

Lippert has LOT'S of experience with Broken frames, pin box mounts.etc.....

Check out the threads of Broken frames.

Once the repair is done by a QUALIFIED welder.....it will indeed be stronger than the original. I would check with Heartland, maybe they and lippert will help with the repair cost.only thing you have to loose...is asking, or not asking..

I would contact Heartland factory personel yourself. And they may help persuade Lippert to assist also....It is a few year s old....but Heartland has been good to their owners...call them direct.......could not hurt.

X2 Bfast54. Had the area around all of my springhangers refabbed on our way to Alaska last year. Much better than new now. We also have the 5th Airbourne pinbox. Better than a no air pinbox but don't think it is as nice as the Trailair which is, ironically, a Lippert product. Had a Trailair on our last trailer & it was amazing to watch that thing move.

While you have a good welder there, have him take a look at the suspension mounts. Sometimes Lippert does a shoddy job there too.
