Not really worried about gas mileage my F250 is a pig, what worries me is driving the truck out of warranty, and 2nd wanted to know how high the rpms are towing at 60 to 65 being the rear is a 4.88. I guess I always thought the truck I would get would have 4.30. Don't know anything about tuning it I drive it stock, seems some here say that in NY you can't delete certain emission items.

I didn't jump on this one too quick because basically I am just getting tired of hearing from the same nitwits over and over again spewing the same horsesh*t. Links to this, links to that. Oh, by the way, they themselves have never owned one or else they drive a company supplied truck and beat it to death. I own the above mentioned truck. It has been good to me. I have been good to it. Is it perfect? Nope nothing is. Two times back to the dealer in 5 years, leaking radiator and a chafed wiring harness. Both covered. I will keep this truck a few more years, maybe get a gas powered SuperDuty when Ford finally brings out a all new truck. Not knocking the current truck but I have owned enough of the current body style to want something all new. Looking forward to see what the new Chevy HD are going to look like. Hopefully they will build a decent looking truck once more. Now with close to 40k miles on the truck I get a pretty steady 12.8mpg at 60mph, towing at the same speed the rv, brings about 11mpg, not great, not bad. My highway mileage unloaded is within a hair of a friends '08 Dodge 3500 dually diesel and a bit better than my cousins Toyota gas big SUV. '08 thru '10 were not great years for fuel mileage for diesels. You know what I really like about my 450? It is just a bit different, not just another 3500/350. Big wide stance, purty aluminum(not plastic trim rings) rims, big fat axle, tires that runs 100k miles. I have hauled over 6,000lbs in the bed, towed very close to the GCWR of the truck and it performed as advertised. I don't care what some weeney hiding behind his keyboard in his mother's basement has to say, I love this truck.

HAHAHA That is a great post! I just don't want the buyers remorse! Know what I have. Its all up to the dealer now, If he extend the warranty he has a sale. The 450 does look the best! Thanks
Your RPM's at 65 mph will be 2500-2600. My truck knocks back 11 mpg's (U.S. gal) at this speed/rpm running empty. Although, you can drive faster or slower and the mileage never seems to change. Drops somewhat when pulling.

No basement and mom lives 1500 miles away.
Yes I guess linking a Ford master tech’s post should prove nothing. If you’d like I could list an entire page of the Ford forums.
Glad your 40k mile truck is doing so well other than what you mentioned. Our sons 08 F250 certainly hasn’t faired so well at about 90k now.
OP asked, sorry real world information ruffled your feathers.
Again you should be fine with the extended warranty OP. Don't leave home without it
OP...you already own a 08 6.4 so you should already know about all the fairy tales and complaints, I would get an oasis report on that truck and expect much less fuel economy.
Me personally i would continue looking for a 1 ton dually just so i could try and get a little better fuel mileage.
I loved my 2008 6.4 and apparently it was the only one ford built without issues as it ran into the 90k mile mark before i traded in for one with a back seat.

I loved my 450 but it became too problematic. If the cost to tow was not so much I would have gotten another one. It will tow anything with comfort but my GMC with 8.1 Gas motor gets better economy than I could get with the 450. If I got the numbers CaptSkup got or gets I would not have thought twice about it. The truck struggled to get 7 MPG at 60-65 loaded and consitantly got 11 MPG unloaded. I tow primarily on flat land, so the extra power is not missed. All in all if it weren't for cost of ownership and downtime I would love to have my truck back.
Well at work, yes I am one of those guys... we have several 6.4 in our fleet of ambulances and grass trucks. I dont beleive that we have gone through the amount of engines like we did with the 6.0 series. I know that our rescue clocks about 7.5mpg upon average and so does our grass truck. We have had some radiators replaced and a few turbo issues, but thats about it as far as I know. I dont have much faith in the Ford diesel anymore. I think all modern vehicles has its problems, just ford seems to have a bit more on the diesel engine, hopefully that will change. As far as Chevy trucks are concerned, I have read that the new gas series engine line in the trucks will have direct injection.. so more power to come. I hope they come out with an engine simular to the ecoboost, so far that engine seems to be holding up.
I bought a 2008 F450 (job 1) King Ranch 4x4 5 months ago. So far I love the truck. Our first outing was a 950 mile round trip to SW Florida and back. I traded in a 2008 Silverado 4x4 D/A on the F450. That first trip was great. It was by far the easiest tow I ever had. Our camper is a 2008 Keystone Raptor weighing in at 15000 + lbs. We averaged 7.56 MPG so far towing over 1500 miles. I have put over 5000 miles on the truck so far. In town MPG is at 10.48. My daily drive is 12 miles to work going from 40 - 60 MPH. I did have a Ford OASIS report and a CARFAX report from the dealer before buying the truck. It showed that the EGR Valve, the radiator, and the fuel tank had all been replaced under warranty. I did buy an extended (3 more years and 36000 more miles) warranty from Ford for the truck. The only issue so far are the frequent regens (sometimes 80 miles apart) and the result of these frequent regens being an extra 2 quarts showing on the oil dipstick. I used my boat oil extractor and removed 2 quarts from the dipstick tube. There is a TSB from Ford to fix the frequent regens, I just haven't taken it in for it yet. If I had to do it over again I would...you can't wipe the ****eating grin off my face going down the road!!!
