Down in Johnstown there is an Incline Plane up the side of a mountain to a restaurant on top with a wonderful view of the city. You can put your toad on it or just drive around to get up there if heights bother you. Great photography of the city and nearby mountains from up there.

Up the valley about 10 miles to the east out of Johnstown is the National Park site of the South Fork Dam dam that broke to flood the city. Some of the old 1889 houses of the rich and famous from Pittsburg still stand.

And a bit farther east of that site a few miles at Cresson is another National Park site for the Old Portage Railroad over the mountains before the railroad was completed in the 1850s.

And farther east from there just outside Altoona is the Horseshoe Curve

on the main railroad line over the mountains. Come in from the Altoona side since there is a tunnel under the railroad on the rural road going west from there.

East of the Altoona area you might want to check out the Raystown Lake
area for some good camping.

And north of that area is the Prince Gallitzin State Park also with some good camping.

We like Ohiopyle State Park in south central PA. It's a very scenic area along the Youghiogheny River with all levels of white water rafting as well as access to many miles of beautiful rail trails for bike riding. There is a nice campground there. Frank Loyd Wright's "Falling Water" is nearby, as well as Ft. Necessity and several other historic landmarks.

If you like outdoors type activities and wildlife, North Central area is good for the Grand Canyon and the Pa. wild elk. LINK
Route 6 in northern Pa. is pretty scenic.

While in " Intercourse" area , make sure you see "Blue-Balls"............these are town names..............really

When you go thru blue balls, you will be close to the "Shady Maple" Buffett.............GO THERE!!!! Excelent food, big, big place.

Altoona as mentioned, horse shoe curve, Frank Loyd Wright house.

Do stop by the Flight 93 memorial ...very moving.

Harley davidson factory, Zippo lighter factory , Puxatawny, home of ther famous rodent..........Gettysburg... Drummer Boy campground near there is real nice for kids....kind of pricey ..but fun!!..........on and on ...

Have fun.

I love the "oil country" area in Northwest PA. Also the Zippo factory offers tours in Bradford, and the Kinzua Bridge is nearby among other things.

Thanks all. As for the East Broadtop, etc, a college friend started a record company and has made recordings of E Broadtop, trains on Horseshoe curve, Reading, etc. First company was called Ralbar. Now called Vantage Records. Also has Semaphore Records. Website with his photo and listings of his recordings. Other types of specialty records in Vantage. He first started around 1960.

One of favorites is the campground at Knoebels Grove in Eysburg, Pa. You can walk into the park, literally, as there is no admission to the park. Good food some neat carousels and roller coaster. Entertainment free in an outdoor amphitheater. You can also use it as a base to explore North Central Pa were you will find the underground mine fire, Ricketts Glenn State Park (waterfalls and hiking) and a lot more. Reservations are a must. I believe price is $35 per night with 30 amp and water only. Sewer dump stations are available.

Spend a Wednesday at the market in Bellville. One Wednesday I watched small Amish boys try to catch a piglet that had gotten loose somehow. The pig wasn't greased but he ran like greased lightning. Allow time to drive around this heavily Amish area. Beautiful scenery, some commercial development but not like the Amish area in Lancaster County.

We moved to PA in 1984 from the midwest. We are still discovering beautiful areas of the state!!

FYI: Stroudsburg is not in Lancaster County. However, Strasburg is.
I like the PA Grand Canyon in northern PA, especially in the fall when the leaves are in full color.
Mount Gretna PA is a small, but beautiful area. They have a lake and a "beach".
Stop at the Creamery in State College, for ice cream. (Expect to wait in line.)
Maybe check out Indian Echo Caverns.
Enjoy your days wherever you are.
