that tow and non towing difference seems awful huge. I only lose a few miles per gallon when towing. Is that right?

AND WHAT are you doing to get THAT great of gas mileage from that diesel? Any secret you can share please! We have 2006 Dodge 4X4 Mega Cab Cummins and get 15-16 non towing.

You just increased your fuel costs by 75%. There's also insurance and maintainence. You also have two tired drivers at the end of the day instead on one.

X2...with all the added costs listed above you will spend more money. Plus isn't some of the fun driving there with the entire clan in the car together?

to the OP---sounds more like you want a vehicle your wife can drive easily and that is weighing on the decision. sell the 5 speed and get an automatic 4 miles per gallon difference is nothing.

Selling of the truck...not happening. I'm sure she would like it though......LOL

The TV (towing...gets 12 to 13 MPG) takes around 100 bucks or more to fill it up from empty. (without towing- around 23-24 MPG). The van gets around 28 MPG. the only driving after we get the trailer set up is just to do a little sightseeing and to make a run here and there to the local grocery store, etc. Nothing major. The drive to get where we are going is about 4 hours roughly. We would be spending more money on fuel with having to re-fill the TV and filling the van too. So the cost goes up. With the added bonus of not having to shift gears with driving the van....(TV is a 5 speed and the wife can't drive it....) would be nice. She could drive and I could rest from driving some........LOL I hate making decisions like this..............

Not. you would be driving the van aprox 500 miles round trip, burn at least 18 gallons just with the van. At $4 per gallon that is $72 (+ tolls). Would never work out cheaper to take a 2nd car just to do a little sightseeing and to make a run to the grocery store. If the whole gang does not fit in the truck, that is a different story.

The fuel injector pump went out on it and I installed a new pump and new injectors.

oh, I am not a truck gal but that sounds kinda expensive?

Oh i'm not either. my hubby is though.........LOL it won't cheap but it was cheaper than going out and buying a new truck that's for sure.

At this point, it looks like we will just take the truck. The more I think about it,even though it would be more of a conveience than anything and if fuel prices were much much lower than they are right now, things might be different.
