Berber carpet - even the high end - will ravel. I have been in the business for 40+ years, so I know what a continuous filament material will do. You can get berber in nylon, also

I started in the carpet manufacturing business in 1969 and retired from it in 2009. So I do have some knowledge in how it's made. Yes continous will ravel, but like I said- RANDOM SHEAR- will work fine. Ours is holding up just fine.

Holy Cow- we are all getting old!!
What manufacturer did you start with?

I really like my front to back hardwood floor. The cockpit area is still carpeted.

I like adding wood in cockpit area. Makes it easier to clean,
Ialso remember installing some 2 inch long purple shag out in west texas in early 70s' me and helper almost couldn't carry that 15 foot roll in the house. I'm glad i have moved on to coach flooring.

We just pulled the carpet out of our '89 Holiday Rambler Imperial and put in laminate click and lock "hard wood". It was 68 cents a square foot. It took us about a day and a half from start to finish. We left the carpet in the cockpit. It looks amazing. The DH did a great job! (I'm kicking myself for not doing before/after photos.

I am pulling up all of my carpet and as mentioned above a nice product to use is called "Allure" I tried it and love it, However there are some good points and bad points the good is that it is a total floating floor and does not need a pad, or liner, nothing it can go down over plywood, the bad points is that it is Thick,(which is good for wear) but hard to cut, besides a good sharp knife, I found if I warmed it up it cut better, plus for corners or curves, just score it, then use needle nose and snipe it off, much like in stained glass. other then that it is easy clean and wonderful....good luck. also, if you have older roman shades, they hold a lot of dust and cover a large part of the windows, go with blinds until you can afford Nice Pleated shades. Have Fun...

Allure flooring can be hard to cut, but I bought some heavy duty vinyl scissors. They are wonderful, but be wary because their handles are their weak points......dont ask me how I know. If you use them dont put pressure in the bottom hole of them, put your hand completely around it and itll cut it very easy.

If you get a hand held propane torch and heat the back, it will cut like butter. Do a few sample cuts with the heat so you can get the hang of doing that without scorching the face
