I have a 2011 F250 CC 4x4 short bed deisel. I am upgrading from a TT to a 5er. The wife has her heart set on a 2012 Forest River Wildcat 344QB The unit has a dry weight of about 10900 and a GVWR of 13700 and a hitch weight of about 1675. I know the 6.7 will pull it but will the the bed drag the road? Will i need to do airbags or is this just to much trailer. I want to enjoy my trip not stress about did I load one to many t-shirts that might put me over weight. Thanks for all your help

The 1675 pin weight is dry as well. Pin weight for a 13700 GVWR is going to be close to 2740. So can your truck handle 2740 of pin weight, 200 lb hitch, 500 lbs of people and 200 lbs of gear?

What are the weight and axle ratings on the Ford sticker on the door frame?

The quick way to estimate if you are in the ball park is to look up your payload capacity for your truck. That FW will be around 2,800# pin-wieght fully loaded. Subtract your family members, full full and estimated gear in truck from manufacturers stated payload capacity. If you have 2,800# left over you are in the ball park for the trailer

The real way to do it and be sure is to get your truck wieghed with full fuel and gear packed in truck as if going RVing. Subtract your wieghed rear axle wieght from the axle rating (on drivers door panel). If you have 2,800# still remaining you are legal. Axle wieghts are a legal requirement.

You might be in the capable range for that newer 3/4 ton truck but that FW is pretty heavy for a 3/4 ton.

Hi,

I don't really think that your trailer is not the "Average" one with a super high hitch weight, and don't see it going up by 1,100 pounds by filling it with water and clothes.

Find out where the fresh water tank is, and if like Glendale RV, the tanks might be located towards the axles, and the weight will not increase a whole lot when the tanks are filled.

The truck has nearly a 3,000 pound cargo rating, you can get a hitch that will automatically slide backwards when you make a turn, and then slide forward as you turn straight. That way the trailer will not try to climb in the back window when pulling around a sharp corner.

2011 F250 4wd diesel crew cab short bed, the truck should have 10,000 GVWR and 6200 RGAWR.

Empty, the truck likely weighs 7500 lbs and 3200 for the rear axle. So that means you have about 2500 lbs payload capacity and 3000 lbs rear axle capacity.

EDIT: My 2011 spec book lists 2430 lbs payload capacity for that model truck.

Maybe I look at "what my truck can haul" with an oversimplified view. Some cut weights , length, HP etc. down to an science. I hooked my F-350 which has little more stats as the F-250 to a 11,000# toy hauler, bumper pull, no WDH, sway controller, though I had one and everything works fine. I think some folks can drive themselves nuts with "stats". How many people on the road have even think about it. A person with a 3/4 ton diesel has about all requirements covered and should not have to worry about Mickey Mouse Stats for most anything he reasonably wants to haul...

I'd say that unmodified, yes, the rear end will sag pretty low.

I recall a Chevy sponsored video where they loaded some material in the bed of an F250 and hitched up a flat deck trailer (bumper hitch) and it had the Ford's headlights pointing skyward. Total load was 2800#.

Welcome to the forum.
IMO the trailer you mention will be a good match for your '12 F250.

Key numbers to look at is the trailer manufacture shipping weights. This weight is required to be placarded by new fed regs. Shipping weight is the unit sitting by itself on the scales.
This unit has a 3000 lb CCC. I would guess the trailer will weigh closer to 12k-12.5k lbs.

Now about your F250.
I wouldn't add air bags to any truck till I make a short run down the road to see how the truck handles/sits. Then I make my decission based on actuals.
The major difference in the F250 and a F350 SRW is the heavier rated rear springs/wheels and tires the SRW carries. Engine/tranny/axles/frame and brakes are the same specs.

My F250 just does not have the capacity for trailer pin weight. F250s have two different spring packs. My truck was set up for towing, but not camper. If you get the camper package it will have more capacity for the pin weight. My Cameo 32 ft. probably has about the same pin weight as what you are going to pull. I had to put on air bags. Trailer pulls perfect now, but really wish I had pught the F350. My trailer only had 3 springs. Look at your spring pack.
