I called two tire dealers in Fl.today. I wanted to buy Maxxis tires they said they stopped carrying them because they had so many problems. Now what? This forum seems to like Maxxis tires. The tire dealers seem to like Goodyear. Looks like there is no clear answer to tire problems.

Sounds like a lot of bull to me. You never read about any Maxxis concerns on this site. Goodyear Marathons are real junk if that's what they're pushing. Try a real tire dealer that knows what they're talking about next time.

Tire dealer tried the same thing on me trying to sell the ST tires they had in stock. Maxxis tires aren't perfect as they are subject to fail when overloaded and improperly filled, but we ordered our set on-line through DiscountTireDirect.com and they were delivered to my front door for free (via UPS) within a few days. I do believe that Maxxis ST tires are best suited for 10K lb. rigs (and under) making 16" LT tires a better choice for heavier 5ers.

Not necessarily true. Maaxis tires manufactured in Thailand appear to be good. However they are now made in other locals. I have read about cracking issues lately. Chris

Their 'Problems' may have been supply related, as they were all on National backorder a while back...perhaps Tsunami related to the supply chain, in-stock inventories plummeted in the aftermath.

Yeah, their "Maxxis problems" were most likely that they did not have any in stock and would rather have sold you what they had. I'm sorry to be untrusting, but I just don't believe most of what sales people tell me anymore.

"Maxxis tires aren't perfect as they are subject to fail when overloaded and improperly filled" Are you kidding? I think that would be a problem for most tires.

There are some people that have reported weather cracking on the Maxxis tires after about 3 years -- but no blowouts on them. The BF Goodrich tires on my wife's truck have had some weather cracking on them too since they were about 3 years old -- they have been on the truck for 4.5 years now without a problem.
One of the advantages to the Goodyear Marathon is the warrantee:
http://www.easternmarine.com/media/downloads/5335/goodyear_warranty5.pdf
If you read that carefully, they will adjust them if you get weather cracking within 4 years of buying them (keep your receipt). It's life is considered 6 years from when you purchase them (keep your receipt).
I tried to get some Maxxis, but they are not currently making the size/load range I was looking for -- despite the fact it is listed in the chart on their website. So I got the next best thing -- the Goodyear Marathon.

I have witnessed the same tactics from tire dealers regarding ANYTHING that they don't sell or have in stock.

It is not easy to find, however the ST Marathon Goodyear has only a three year warranty. The link above is for RV tires on MHs. Chris
