Delo 400 or Shell Rotella T are both fine diesel oils AND they are both available everywhere including Walmart.

You won't go wrong with either one.

Can you actually tell me what spec is better about the Rotella than the other brands so I can check it out on the internet? I don't want to hear premium, far better for Fords, or extra heavy duty. I want to hear specs that I can research.

I would like to think my Ford PU is better than anything else on the market also but I like it best because I own it and use it.

Sometimes people become so brand conscious that they lose sight of everything else. That is exactly why brand name products bring in more profits. I have a friend that only eats Campbell soup. His grand dad ate Campbell soup, his dad ate Campbell soup and he has been eating it for years so obviously it is the best on the market. It may be the best, who knows.

That said, I'm not saying Rotella oil is not good oil. If it is CJ-4 API you are using good oil. It isn't any better or worse than other CJ-4 oil.

I have used nothing but Chevron Delo 400 since the day I bought my truck.
It has worked fine for me.

By the way "Delco" (DEtroit Engineering Laboratory COmpany) does not make or market oil.

I use Valvoline Premium Blue in my 5.9 Cummins. So far works great. I also have a FS-2500 by-pass oil filter for extended drain times.

Last research I did Rotella and Delo were rated about the same with Rotella with a slight edge. I use them both which ever is on sale at the time I change. I had Delo tested at Blackstone last change and it tested very good condition on an extended oil change.

that oil is rated highest of all (cummins/valvoline premium blue)
copy and past this link and go to the bottom and see how poorly
Dello 400 le and shell rotella are rated overall

Well then, how about Rotella T6 5W-40 API CJ-4. That is what I use, and only because I know what a unused oil analysis says about it. My other choice would be Mobil's Delvac 1 ESP 5W-40 which is also a CJ-4 oil and also meets ACEA, and Global industry specifications for diesel engine oils.

But if we are going to talk about oil, we should be over at the Bob Is The Oil Guy forum. There are some guys over there who know oils, and there are some lubrication engineers over there too. But I must admit that there are a few guys here, very few, who know their oils. And there are a lot who run something because dear old dad ran it, or the guy on TV says its good.

And while were at it. Why the API only specs. Arn't there other specs out there that are just as good or better? Like maybe the Quartz Ineo MC3 Synthetic Motor Oil that meets the ACEA 2007 C3. At least if I buy European synthetic motor oil, I know it is really synthetic, because synthetic means something over there, unlike here in the states! Here you have to find out what the base oil is, and the refiners will not tell you. And the Federal Trade Commission has turned dino oil into synthetic oil with a wave of their magic quasi-judicial wand!!! Maybe someday they will straighten that out, but I doubt it.

Valvoline Premium Blue for me because that is what my Cummins manual suggests. However, I wouldn't have any problem with Shell Rotella or any of the other premium oils mentioned here.

Even MORE importantly...... When you tell us what premium oil you use, please also add your typical mileage driven between changes. We currently put on relatively few miles each year, as I am still working. A huge year for us would be 3,000mi and yes, I still do annual oil changes. So, for me, synthetic would be a huge waste of money, IMO and I'm thinking a decent but not expensive dino oil is perfect for me.........

I use Shell Rotella 15-40W and have used it with success ever since we have owned our Ford 7.3 Powerstroke.

Our son drove big rigs for nearly ten years and most of the companies he worked for used Rotella.

I am sure Delo 400 is just as good, as are other brands that meet modern diesel engine certification requirements.

However, you can go into any truck stop on the planet and buy Shell Rotella if you need it.
