When driving north in Finland, they had moose (elk) crossing signs every few miles along the fenced highway. As you drive farther north, they finally gave up and had a moose sign with a map of the country with the top half black... you are on your own now.

I hit a deer (Buck actually) on my way to Yosemite on Hwy. 120 going around a curve, I had no time to even hit my brakes, I knocked it 30 feet into a ditch on the side of the road. It dented my grill, but luckily no damage to my radiator. The deer didn't survive. This happened to me at Buck Meadows, if you can believe it. I was just happy my truck and camper didn't get any more damage than it did. I felt bad for the deer.

A few years ago a neighbor was driving her brand new Tundra and was broadsided by an elk. The vehicle was totaled and so was the elk.

Guess which is the better action to take?
This is my take, deer, turkey or any other critter. I would rather have a tear running down my cheek, than my blood. Fortunately, I have not ever ran into anything, but probably just a matter of time. I have been driving daily, in the mountains/hills on windy roads for over twenty years.

Yep. Where we used to live, there was a saying: There are two groups of people in this county---those who have hit a deer and those who will hit a deer. I hit a doe once (not with my RV), knocked her into the ditch and she scrambled up and ran into the woods. No damage to my car. So many close calls I couldn't count.

We get what I call "Suicide Deer" out here on the Island who will attempt to pass through a solid object (Wait at the side of the road where they're safe then charge into the side of a passing vehicle) or are trying out their Superman Skills (By trying to leap over the moving vehicle that is already passing them).

I deal with this every night when I drive home from work during or any place else and the sun has gone down.

My wife and I had an experience going through Nevada where 3 deer standing in the median charged our truck and boat as we passed at 65 mph. I thought for sure the side of the boat was going to have impact. Kind of wish I had video of how close it actually was. I'm just glad they didn't try to lead us more than they did. My wife was drivign when it happened and she was shaken up a little. We pulled over at the next wide spot in the road and I had to take over driving.
