Our old B5.9 is tweaked up a bit from 230 to 300 HP. It turns in a constant 10.5 mpg and at 55 I can get 11. As wolfe10 pointed out you can read these numbers over and over for many years now.

at 61 to 62 mph on flat land towing 4800 lb minivan I get 9.6 to 9.7 mpg on flat land.

A loop around the country brings that down to 8.9 mpg

Guys,

Physics is physics.

Light, aerodynamic coaches with "reasonable" HP modern diesel engines DO get 10 MPG.

Brett, I like your term "reasonable" HP. I feel the same way. My 260 HP ISB is perfect in my case for a 36', 26,000 lb combined weight. My engine balances power with fuel economy just right. As higher and higher HP engines became available people wanted them and coach manufacturers made MHs bigger and heavier to match the engines. They are nice, big, MHs but they sure use the fuel not to mention having a high initial price.

STEVEP220, I have your exact same engine. I get beteen 9-9.5. That is a loaded coach (supplies) and towing a Honda CRV. This is a combination of flat and mountainous.
