Our department was going to try the same thing this year, but the chargers we have been getting are about 4k cheaper per car. When ordering 8-12 cars a year that really adds up. Plus last time they checked Ford wasnt offering the 5 year 100k mile warranty Dodge was. Do you know if that changed?

Retired LEO here - I purchased a new 2012 F1500 EB today!!!

I was looking at the new Taurus' that were on the lot and they looked GOOOOOD. My salesman was a recently retired LEO, so we had to discuss the police package and what it had and didn't have. I was never a fan of the Ford Crown Vic police vehicles, but these look nice and seem to handle pretty good, also.

I loved the 90's Caprice's, but since then, they were OK.

Hope your department has great luck with them.

Hope you have

Are you sure the Explorer EB is 3.5L V6? The public is getting a 4-cly EB for it.

the hemi chargers are super fast, but have a large appetite when used... offsetting the 4k difference in initial cost.

so the big question is the cost of ownership/maintenance....
vs purchase price....

The OP's thread raises a lot of questions:

I wonder why GM is not selling any Caprice police packages in Canada ? A terrible idea for GM to not sell in Canada, as many police departments are at this point...with no more Crown Vics available...looking for long term replacements.I don't know.

Are the new Fords (Taurus, Eco Boost F 150) in your department, as test vehicles ? Yes. We ordered "one of each" so to speak to see how they hold up.

Did your police dept. not find the Hemi Charger police packages satisfactory and therefore not order anymore, or were the Fords lowest bidders ? Nothing wrong with the Hemi Chargers at all. We also have a couple 3.5L V6 versions that we have had for a few years and they have held up well. The Fleet manager is trying a sample from each manufacturer to get feedback from the front line officers on likes/dislikes.

Nope, I was incorrect. Thanks for pointing that out. The Utility ones we are getting (Explorer) are the 3.7L naturally aspirated. We are getting one FWD, one AWD, both 3.7L non-EcoBoost. I'll fix the OP.

It will be interesting to see what comes down the pike in police cars now that the Crown Vic is done. Talking with the boys(and girls) in blue where I work as a firefighter, they like the Charger as a traffic/pursuit car better because it's much faster than the CV, but for everyday patrol work they say the CV is more durable and user-friendly.

The Charger is fast but is smaller than a CV and doesn't have room for a full size spare AND gear in the trunk.
The Caprice is fastest, but its smaller than the CV and the shifter is on the center console. Thats a poor idea for police vehicles because the center console is the location where light and siren controllers, radios, computers, etc are mounted.
The Impala is slower and smaller, but at least it has a full size spare tire and a column mounted shifter.
I haven't seen any of the new Ford offerings. I like that they will offer an AWD version, cause it can get "interesting" in a rear wheel vehicle with highway tires in the snow.
Being 6-04 and 240 lbs, I really hope there is a true "full size" option coming soon for patrol use. The Tahoe is the closest option, but its expensive and doesn't handle as well as a car.

My charger has a full spare. The only thing I dont like compared to my Crown Vic is blind spot in the front a pillar area. Other than that mine 2012 rides and drives like a dream for a cruiser. And its fancy, push button start and steering wheel controls.
