At first I didn't like the new Taurus. Lately I've seen some pretty sporty looking one running around. The Carl Edwards commercial looks great! And the black cop car is killer!

I agree. The 2013 SHO looks pretty sinister. Chrysler and Ford are creating some pretty good looking sedans, but for some reason I can't get excited about GM's offerings, with the exception of maybe the Buick Regal.

I'm pretty sure in my city they use Chevy Tahoe police packages. I've seen these accelerate...they seem to move out quickly.
We have one Tahoe 4x4 with a 5.3L. It's about the same as the 5.4L Expedition which is actually pretty SLOW compared to the Crown Vic and Charger, but they are a different type of vehicle.

I'm not impressed with any of them except the 6.0 Chevy maybe.
The brakes on these things other than Chevy????? Warping in police duty before long?

Two new ones arrived. The white Taurus is an AWD EcoBoost, and will be striped/decaled and used in patrol. The black "utility" is AWD as well, and has the 3.7L V6. It will remain unmarked and will be used by the Traffic Unit.

not real sneaky with those wheels on them that's for sure. Really defeats the purpose of "unmarked" but both look nice.

Wonder how the new Ford AWD's and FWD police packages will stand up to hard police use...say compared to the old CV ?
Time will tell I suppose.
I'm not sure (I don't know re; newer technology, that's why I'm not sure) if going with turbocharged (3.5 ecoboost) and FWD/AWD will be a good move, in view of hard use.
I think other Canadian police forces will watch with interest re; your police force's experience with these new vehicles.
Although a number of forces have bought a number of extra CV's before the CV line closed down...the decision is inevitable...CV's will have to be replaced and with what.
Be interesting if you could keep us apprised of how these new vehicles do...over the next while.

I think car guys....like those that frequent this forum, pick up on small details like that...not sure if the general public or miscreants are as perceptive. 
Part of the police package...check out the size of the vents in those wheels...air flow to hot brakes adds durability.

That is just cool in my opinion. I like the new Taurus PI. Should hold up well. Why the nay sayers when police departments have been using FWD Chevy Impalas for a few years now. Then they become taxi cabs for even more abuse.

I have found that the only good police vehicle was the Ford Crown Vic. During my 30+ years, I have driven them all.
The Dodge and Plymouth Dipomats were dogs, as was the Chevy Caprice(ours had 305 engines and not 350). Then we tried the mid 90's Taurus, but they were too small, for patrol use. We had Crown Vics after that which worked out well for patrol. We have the smaller Chevy Malibu's for detectives and Lt's and up., but they didn't use the back seats that often.
I did my time, and now see a few Dodge Chargers showing up, but never drove one.
We don't have many trucks here except the guys in the marine unit. probably a whole different world in police work in Canada.
