No mountains when crossing NC on I-40. Not even any hills to speak of.

not sure where you are staying in Tn. but from Nashville to Knoxville in Tn. The mountains on I-40 are not bad at all. If memory serves correctly, there is 1 or maybe 2 spots with a 5% incline. Last time I went thru there I was in my Jeep Grand Cherokee pulling a 16' flatbed with several parts for the Bird. (Trailer included-total weight was likely 2000 lbs). Trailer did not have brakes. No problems at all. You will be fine.

No mountains to be concerned with. There is a nice downhill run about 15 miles east of Asheville - 5 or 6 miles of 6% +/- downgrade. It's only an "issue" headed back uphill when going west!

Yep. Shore enuff. That's why the 4 miles of 6% on I-40 east of Asheville has a mandatory truck stop at the top with a large scale map of the not-hill, 3 lanes each up & down, 35 mph for trucks & 55 for cars, 'trucks may stop on shoulder to cool brakes' signs, automatic 'truck too fast for curve' flashing lights, and 3 runaway truck ramps.

I'll be sure to protest to the NCDOT for wasting our tax dollars with all this un-needed stuff. Oh, wait... I had 4 friends killed by a runaway truck there in 1972....

I guess you can call em hills instead of mountains...I 40 passes just south of Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi.

Take time to be nice to someone today.

As a former resident of Wilkes County NC, I can assure ya'll that there are hills in western NC. They get bigger when towing.
