I'm looking for a storage box to set my Champion gererator in to transport it on my rear rack. Would like to find an aluminum box and maybe vent it so it could be run while in the box? Anybody done this? What did you use?? Most truck bed boxes are too big and seem way too expensive. I'm open to ideas... pictures would help a bunch. Thanks

Yes finished couple months ago. My box might not be big enough for you Gen, but concept is sound! After Rhino coating ( have yet to have done). Less than $900.00 including labor. I had to have all cutting, door fabrication done. I am not handy just a good designer! Lol

You guys are really over-thinking this...
I had this aluminum diamondplate box/tray with locks made for $185.
I remove the box(cover) and run the generator right in the back of my truck. I made a sunbrella cover in case it rains.

Yes, but does your "Gen. Box" have it's own "fridge full of "Cristal", and a flatt screen and giant sub woofers....see and you thought we were over thinking ! Lol

GREAT locking box! I have to make sure a box will not be in the way of the sliding hitch but that is where I intend to put my Honda 2000i, I have a hole in side rail that I can put a chain through to lock it down OR it will definitely grow legs and walk while in rest stop or in middle of night etc.

The lower aluminum tray is bolted to the truck bed. The diamondplate cover has two keyed locks that lock it to the lower tray. It's just a different twist on normal thinking. Some will remove the cover and leave the generator in the box. I decided to remove to box, and leave the generator in the cover.

Photos of my gen box set up on my prior travel trailer. I now have a 5'er with an Onan. I did not over think this. I just turned the key when I wanted full 30 amp power from my 4300 Subaru is genset. The genset ran in the box without issue.

Why take a chance on overheating the genny? Also the added vibration of being attached to the RV?
