Fan box is ventilated with 12 volt fan for adequate ciculation.Genset will automatically shut itself down if over heating occurs. I tested it. Genset would run in box 24/7 if necessary.
Genset is always secure and out of the weather. There is never any set up required. By attaching genset to trailer, Genset is always with trailer not truck. One can take the TV and leave and Trailer still has power. Trailer is always fully self contained. This set up was expensive but worked great for the years I used it.

All joking aside my box is nearly impossible to open. Box secured to truck bed and frame, gen secured inside box. It's more than adequate air ventilation. Fan is plugged into generator and is high capacity exhaust fan rated to operate at 200 degrees F. . Temp in hox with generator full bore is actually cooler by almost two degrees. Mine is overkill for my 3000 boost Yamaha. I can also filter the air by placing filters in the intake vents. It also operates perfectly from inside trailer with remote. Only time I take it out is Yamaha Service. They even signed off on it! Gen looks like new! Box will look better rhino coated same as truck! No vibration at all in truck, truck and gen isolated on rubber pads... Yamaha only 49 decible at 10 feet in the box. We tested it, in non Econ mode!
Some very nice generator boxes have been posted here. Nice work!
If I were building a box to run the generator inside, I would probably build a frame with angle or tube and use galvanized expanded metal, or galvanized perforated sheet, for the walls and plain galvanized sheet for the lid. That would give full air flow to the generator, keep it safe from thieves and provide some protection from weather as well.
Most generators will handle being outside in the weather fine. My Bobcat self generating welder sits outside mounted to the bed of the truck year-round, has been for years and it always runs fine.
So Cal an open more breathable design would have ventilation advantages. However it would attract and get the attention of the criminal element.
Out of sight is always better with thieves. Most are stupid cannot take the temptation.
I contacted KSH marine fabrication for a price quote on making me a genset box. They have some listed on thier web site but I want a custom size to keep it just the right size for the generator I have (champion). I'm still waiting for thier reply.....
