i actually traded my four winds for a 2012 forest river 3010 ds for the follow ing reasons:
1. fiberglass roof instead of rubber. fiberglass isnt supposed to leave black streaks
2. enclosed black, grey tank holding area, heated as well, protects from road debris; four winds wasnt enclosed;
3. fiberglass cap instead of window in front, which tends to leak
4. cabinet fit and finsh quality seemed better. some of my cabinets would open in transit
5. overall fit and finish seemed better. smaller attention to nice details, like an enclosed area for the garbage can accesible from outside. it seems trivial, but having a garbage can on the floor in the aisle in a 25 foot class c can be a real pain.
6. handling , steering, ride issues are common to all class c's regarless of manufactuer, and can be addressed with various after market add ons such as track bars, anti sway bars, bilsteins shocks, etc. do a search for sway, handling issues in this forum . ride issues arent the manufacturers fault. these are common to most class c's.
7. ride rite air bags standard on some. i know some jayco's come with bumper stops on the fram to help the ride as well as helper springs.

We love our 2005 3100ss. We are looking to upgrade, and it will be to a Sunseeker 3170. For the base price, you get standard features that are upgrades in many other units.
-The 7' ceilings are great.
-Minor repairs are needed on ALL rv's from time to time. These things bounce down highways, so I wouldn't expect any less.
-The fiberglass roofs on the newer units are great. (ours is rubber)
-You mentioned engine trouble...that's not a Sunseeker issue. Virtually the same drivetrain, engine on all similar Class C's.
-Did you compare reviews with other brands? Just curious.
-About the only thing I don't like, is the ground clearance. But, that is fixed on the newer units.
Like I said, we love our Sunseeker.

Really appreciate all the info you folks give.
I DID check out rvdirect.com & didn't quite get it. You have to drive to one of those cities to get your motor home? Seems like that would cancel out any savings? Or did you pay to have it delivered? I didn't quite go as far as giving my email because I didn't want anyone bugging me, what with not wanting to take the plunge til fall, snowbird it south for winter. But this is a great fount of information.

I think I received only one e-mail from them when I was looking. It was an "I am-so-and-so and I will be your salesperson.". Later I replied to him saying that I had changed my mind as was looking at a different rig, but since he was my initial contact how did he get credit if I changed my mind. No problem he said as they keep tract by e-mail addresses.

Don't be afraid to check out RvDirect.com fully. They were great people to work with. I had no issues with them "bugging " me via email. When I asked for something I got a quick reply, otherwise no marketing emails. The travel to pick it up could be an issue for you. My trip to Des Moines was only 300 miles each way. They filled the 57 gallon gas tank so the cost to me was minimal. Talk to them before you rule out the possibility. The savings are enormous.

Hi. I have been checking out Class c for a while. If gotten at the right price there is no doubt that sunseeker/forester(basically the same are the best value for the money.
the only negative i could find-versus other c's is the propane tank size.
as for rv direct give them only your first name,e-mail,and fictitious phone number if it makes you feel safer. they usually only send one more e-mail after the price quote e-mail.
(however when they are having sales they may send you a general e-mail)
then you use the price that they send you as a comparison.
I myself only live 90 minutes from their albany headquarters so it's no issue to me.
I have not pulled the trigger yet because I have certain other issues
that have nothing to do with rv itself.
However if i was getting the c today it would be a sunseeker from rv direct

RV comparison guide by JR consumer resources is pricy but worth it. Updated yearly, has lots of information. I have no financial interest in the company. I have the forest river 3010ds
My rv dealer said forest river did have some issues in the past but was recently updated and build quality has gotten significantly better over the last few years. My RV dealer had been selling four winds as well and had better luck with them, again until recently when forest river seemed to improve their build quality.

TaterSr -
RV World/Terry Town in Michigan have both the Sunseeker and Forester (a Sunseeker with up-level trimmings).
I paid so much less there it was worth the drive from Maine. RVDirect wouldn't match the price and wanted payment in full to order. RVWorld/Terrytown took just 10% to custom order ours and took the balance on delivery after a full PDI.
