I am considering purchasing a 93 Gulfstream Scenic Cruiser that has a 300 Cummins and a Allison 8 speed. I am not familiar with the 8? Any issues with these? Why aren't they around today? Thanks.

No, it is a 6 speed. Probably an MD3060. Should be a tag on the side of the transmission.

I am guessing a typo. Allison transmission were/are 6-speeds. There was an Eaton 9-speed that was offered for a short time behind the Cummins N14. Monaco used this package for a limited time in their late 90's Signatures as an option.

I would be more concerned that it's a 4 speed, not a 6 on s 93. If it has a lever with D, 3, 2, 1 it's a 4 speed and not what you really want.
This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

Could it be a 4 speed with either a Gear Vendors or 2 speed rear axle?

Gear Vendors unit doubtful if it is behind a diesel engine. Don't know of any chassis manufacturers that used 2-speed axles in the past couple of decades.
Also, doubtful it is a 4-speed Allison (MT654). They were pretty much phased out and replaced by the MD3060 6-speed by 1993. Unless it was a chassis left over which is not entirely out of the question, but not likely.
