One of our favourite Provincial Parks is about 40 minutes drive from Toronto. We go there often as it feels like we are away in a forest.

I might do it. Camping close to home is not for the camping but I go with friends and family members when it's local campgrounds. Can't expect them to meet me on the other side of the country (very often anyway). If we're talking $38.00 a night it doesn't SOUND like a campground though. More likely an RV park and that would rule it out for me.

I don't quite get it but camping is camping no matter the distance. I have friends that live in Anacortes that camp a few miles down the road at Washintong Park several times a year.
Some friends don't get why I go out camping at all since my backyard is very private and borders a nature preserve that is far more campground like than most campgrounds.

We have a COE campground about 12 miles from us. It is our favorite place to walk. It takes us an hour to do the loop, we get our exercise, get to see other units, and share local information with campers. There are many local campers there. We are going there to camp for a night shakedown before leaving for a 2 week trip.

It is funny, once we retired, when we go camping, we like to take a week long minimum trip to make it worth our while.

We spend a few days at the end of each month at a local state park which is about 20 miles from here. Not many miles, not much time but a lot of great campsites, walking trails, lake. And I don't have to drain the gas tank getting there.

Camping, to me, is all about enjoying being outdoors and sometimes about the folks your camping with. If I lived 9 minutes from my favorite campground, it wouldn't scare me off from going there. Maybe you ought to try it and see if it's a great campground with great people. They may be having the time of their lifes and you might also.

I wish my favorite one was 9 miles from home. I would be able to afford to go a lot more often if I didn't have to fill the gas tank

I fully agree.

No such thing as too close in my book especially with today's fuel prices. Right now we are sitting in a state park 20 miles from home and thoroughly enjoying and relaxing. It is so peaceful here and quiet, we have been here 1 night so far 8 more nights here.
