Within about a 30 miles radius of our house there are at least ten CGs. When I was working we would frequently go to one of these CGs for the weekend as I like camping not driving. In fact in the couple years prior to my retirement I would take the TT to one of the CGs for a couple of weeks and commute to work. Now that I have retired I have a tendency to travel further and stay longer but I have no problem going to the CGs close to the house.

We live in northeasten Illinois and are looking for a place for seasonal camping instead of putting our coach into storage after we return from our winter trip south. We thought it would be easier to leave it set up and maybe we would use it more in betwen our trips. There doesn't seem to be a lot of campgrounds in the area. If you live in the area do you know of a decent campground?...... Southeast Wisconsin would also work.

Thanks

We have 2 Beautiful Forest Service campgrounds w/lakes just a hop, skip & a jump from the ole hoogan. It's like going from the land that God forgot to paradise. We force ourselves to make that trip @ least a dozen times from when they open in May & close in Oct.

I boondocked 14 times last year.

One spot is 1 mile away.

The other is 10 miles.

The third is 20 miles.

We are flexible as well. We have one of our state park campgrounds just 20 mins up the road. Sometimes I will go set up the trailer thursday afternoon. We will camp that night and then we will go to work friday and then continue to camp the rest of the weekend. It depends on our mood. With the close campgrounds we will invite family and friends out for a campfire or cookout and then they can drive home. People are welcomed to spend the night. One good thing is when we start packing up Sunday is that we dont have a long drive home.

We live in a metropolitan area so if we camped 9 minutes from home we would still be in the concrete jungle, but my philosophy is that if we can drive home to pick up something we forgot and get back to the "campground" in the same day, it's too close. (I do believe, though, that if we lived in the Sierra's my philosophy would change.)

There's two real nice parks about 30 miles from us. We can't afford
to travel far. And there isn't much traffic to deal with going there.

Yes, the MH parked beside our rental house is spendy but we enjoy it
and it's a 2nd home for us if the country collapses after the comming
election.
