We've had our 2010 TT for nearly 18 months and 4 tires later. Tire #1 replaced within 11 months when we were notified of it wobbling on the highway. A few months later, Tire #2 blew on the highway, followed by #3, again on the highway, only 3 weeks after that. Tire #4 was the spare, which blew out WHILE STILL ATTACHED TO THE REAR of the camper parked at home. All were Carlisle tires. We've switched to Maxxis thanks to the recommendation of readers of this forum. P.S. we've now purchased covers for all of them to protect from the Florida sun.

Maxxis is highly rated by real users on this forum so you did well.

Any brand that is over loaded weight and speed wise will fail early.

To make an honest judgement all factors need to be the same. If in your case the Carlise tires were load rated C and the Maxxis is load rated a D then you can not compare based on BRAND only.

How do you overload or overspeed the spare attached to the back of the trailer?

What load rating were the Carlisle tires? in my research in them it seems to be mainly the load range 'C' and 'D' Carlisle`s. I have 'E' Carlisle tires on my trailer with close to 10k miles! no issues and still look great.

All this talk about "china bombs" is just that talk. With the numbers on the road the failure rate is small. If acurate info were able to be compiled I bet it boils down to under inflation...speed ...and impact MOST of the time. Only ST failure I ever had was with a US made Goodyear. On our recent trip to Elkhart my E rated ST's ran cold while my e rated truck tires ran very warm...heat is a key factor in delamination. Also a friend uses Chinese ST tires on his heavy equipment trailers and never a tire structure failure....just tires destroyed by being injured on impacts. Some folks like bashing things....makes them feel good

Several things. 1) I absolutely believe China sends a lot of******over here. Heck, they manufacture a lot of******for their domestic consumption. Overall, I do not trust their quality control.

2) If all ST tires were made over here, there would still be a fair number of blow outs.

All the blow outs attributed to C-bombs is due, IMO, to a number of reasons. a) Poorer quality control in china. b) Running underinflated tires. 3) Many tires being pulled at over the 65mph max. 4) Aging tires still being used. 5) TT manufacturers using the barest minimum tire they can. For example, using a 14" C rated tire instead of a 15" D rated tire. The 15" D tire would give a great margin of error for an overload, intentional or otherwise, where as the 14" C would be at the edge with little margin of error.

All that said, when it's time to replace my tires, 2 USA Marathons, and 3 Chinathons, I plan on getting Maxxis.

It just seems like the Maxxis' tend to have a lot fewer problems than all the other tires.

If not those, it's probably be GY Marathons built in China. Hopefully GY is now actually managing the tire plant in China. I've heard the first time GY went to China they just contracted with a local Chinese tire company to build them, only using GY molds.

Had my pup for 17 years and only replaced the tires once. Carlisle off and replaced with the same. Always did 70+ on the interstate.

But then again, it was stored inside, up on jack stands when not in use. So they didn't see much sun.

Keep in mind CHINA only sends us the quality tires we send them money to purchase.

One China tire builder rep was quoted as saying 80% of USA orders are for their low price/low quality tires. There is not a country that can build a better tire than CHINA.

I got 22 years out of a set of Carlisle tires on the utility trailer. They were cracked like crazy but never blew and ran low more than not.

Get the right load rated tires (never loading to more than 80% of max load rating) and see how it goes.

Carlisle tires are no longer made in China. I work for a division of carlisle (interconnects-cable).

I think Gale H has it right...let's compare apples to apples. Maxxis have a good following but most owners that have issues with the C-bombs seem to be changing to Maxxis of a greater load rating, of course they will have less blowouts. Let's put some of the blame on the manufacturers that mount tires, wheels and axles that are too close to max just leaving the dealer lot.
