Just got it 2 days ago and these are the first few things that struck me. Might help someone looking.
Something I haven't seen mentioned is the ride quality. Coming from an 05 GMC 1500 that rides better then any of my cars the F150 is a tank. Just thought I'd bring it up as I, and from what I see most of you, can't find a HD model at a dealer to test drive. The main road off ours is under construction, boy, you feel every pebble. Much like the empty F350s I tried, maybe worse.
The truck sits higher then I imagined, should have gotten the tailgate step and the running boards or some such. Figured at 6'2" I wouldn't need them like the GMC.
The rear camera looks like a winner, I wasn't going to go with it, glad I did. Same for the new bed side steps.

Now you need a tailgate lock! The insurance companies are paying $2,600 for those without a tailgate lock. I am not sure if that covers the camera cost or not.

The druggies decided it is a quick way to make a couple hundred dollars.

Good info, we are still contemplating the HD payload crew cab ourselves, and that was what I was worrie about, riding like a tank.

Cant win though I guess, the Ram I tried was a great ride but 1100 payload, these have 2000+ payload but ride like a wagon, go figure...

Did you check the air pressure in the tires. Running around empty, pickup trucks do not need tires pumped up to hauling specs. Chris

Take a ride in a 1971 F250 with only a GVWR of #7700 and you will think that F150 HD/Max Tow is a Cadillac!

Lets see.. The F150 HD has a GVWR of #8200. The GMC 1500 maybe #6800. LR E rated tires compared to P rated tires. Payload of over #2500 to a payload of maybe #1500...

My Dads 2005 Dodge RAM 3500 dually rides better than that '71 F250.. He still has the 71 too!

So, are you saying you don't like the F150??

Mitch

You say the GMC rode better than any of your cars?!! What does that tell you? I'm not slamming GM's they're nice, but just let every bump and pebble you feel in the F-150 remind you that you have the most capable 1/2 ton truck on the market today. You can now go out and buy a trailer with 10K or so GVWR and hit the road. Enjoy.

I wanted the extra payload and got what I asked for. Had not given a posible rougher ride a thought when I tried a non HD model out before ordering, my bad. Just want to let others know they are getting a big truck ride if they go this route. The dealers don't stock the HD's, at least not around here, so you're ordering without trying.

I agree with you about the ride. GM trucks ride like cars and the STANDARD trucks are very nice riding but the HD is a lot harsher (which I prefer in a truck). No you won't need to go looking for tailgate locks because they're standard on all Ford trucks.

There "Ain't no free lunch". I liked the fact that my 2500 was rated to haul over three thousand pounds, but like even more that my new 1500 rides better and gets thirty percent better mileage.

My 2012 XLT S/Crew, Ecoboost, HD payload, Max tow is < 2 weeks old. My family and I like how it rides. Yes this is a big truck and it will take me a while to get use to it after driving a Ford Ranger for 12 yrs. I enjoy everything so far including the room....back seat area has more room then the 2nd row seats in my wife's Honda Odyssey.

If your are considering this type of truck I would strongly recommend ordering the tailgate step, back-up sensors and rear view camera. If you have a tool box in the bed, the "bed side-steps" should also be on your list.

As mentioned in a earlier you will not see this type of truck on the lot. If you are considering a new truck I would recommend ordering one the way you want it equipped. My order to delivery time period was only 7 weeks; Jan 28th-Mar 17th.
