I have a friend that just bought an Lance 845 and is going to put it on a 2004 2500Hd swb. He has air bags on it now and wanted to put a sway bar but because of the AB's it won't mount.

So my question is AB's or sway bar? Just looking for some suggestions for him.

Personally I have SuperSprings and a sway bay and really don't care for AB's.

I also found that Supersprings have some sway bar acting benefits as well.

I have the same rig. I started out with air bags only. Then a couple of years later I added Bilstein heavy duty shocks. The shocks made a major difference in the up/down bouncing. I like them.

I've never driven another truck camper, so don't know if a sway bar would help me or not. My ride right now seems pretty good. YMMV.

Maybe I am misunderstanding something here. Sway bars and air bags do not function the same and do not provide for the same solution. There will always be a little gentle sway with a truck camper of any size and weight. Air bags do not elimnate that and neither will a sway bar. What worked for me very well was to add the energy systems overload spring stops that allow the overloads to engage earlier and then add just enough air for the springs to touch with the camper on.

I know that there is a difference in the dynamics between AB's and a SB. My question is,which would be more beneficial AB's or SB. He is planning on upgrading his shocks.

IMO he would be better off taking the AB's off and installing a SB and some other suspension upgrade. From my understanding is that all AB's do is level the load.

Since he can only have one, I think he's asking which one will help the most.

He needs the air bags! As for the sway bar I find it hard to believe there's nothing out there that will fit. As I've said several times on this forum the big wig sway bar was the single best mod I have but without the air bags it just won't work. As for what jmtandem says... no the sway bar will not "eliminate" sway but the difference is day and night. The bilsteins are also a good investment.

The sway bar won't mount because the AB's are mounted n the same area.

I understand this but as I said, I can't believe there are NO sway bars that will fit this rig. In any case the air bags are needed.

Since he arleady has the air bags installed, I would just make sure they are plummed seperately and give it a try. Don't forget to try around with different pressures to see which works best providing enough support but not increasing too much sway. I would try 20# increments then fine tune.

If he isn't happy with the sway, then drop the air bags to a couple of pounds and see if he can handle the sag. If so, then drop the bags and add the bar.

Why start changing things before he even sees how the rig handles.
