I apologize if this is a duh question. I just bought a tow dolly with electric brakes. I am towing a small vehicle on it. I assumed that I also need towing lights. Where would they be plugged in as the plug at the back of the motorhome already has the dolly plugged in there?

When I had my dolly I tapped a connector into the dolly's wires so I could also attach the removable trailer lights on the toad. I'm not sure it was legally necessary, as with a short tow car the dolly lights should be enough to meet safety requirements. I just like having lots of lights on my tail.

I wondered that myself, thanks for asking about it.

If you don’t have the 7 pin hook up you can fabricate a splitter like the one in the picture below. Many state don’t require the toad to be lit if the dolly is properly lit but I don’t feel comfortable driving after dusk without the toad being lit so I added a license plate light to the magnetic light system shown below and put it on if I’m forced to drive after dusk or in the rain.

i just added brakes to my master tow dolly and my newer mh has the 7 pin plug on the back. in order to use my magnetic lites that have the flat 4 pin connector i had my dealer order me a new recepticle that replaces the regular 7 pin and has the 7 pin connector plus on the side it also has the 4 pin connector so both can be used. it cost about $45. and takes about an hour or less to install.

If your dolly has lights you do not need towing lights. Let other people BS you with what they do but I towed two different cars on my Demco crosscrossing the U.S. twice on Northern Route Southern Route and Middle Route also up and down east coast numerous rimes and never ever have I used tow lights other than what was on the dolly.

Absolutely correct. Towing lights are but an added safety feature for those interested in safety. Some don't care if they can be seen in the rain or snow or reflection from roadway.

You should have a 4 prong coming off the line. Use it for Lights
