I was in my local Home Depot today and came across a " reconditioned " Husky 2250 generator. It has a Subaru 4 cycle engine and produces 2250 watts steady and 2800 peak. I asked about the recondition and was told someone bought it, brought it back because something was wrong with it and it was sent to a repair center to be fixed. It comes with the new warranty of 3 years. Price was $300.00. I did an online search and most everyone had positive reviews, most negative comments were that it was noisier than a Honda.Any of you guys using one ? Can you run a 13.5 AC unit with it ? Weight wasn't bad at 108 lbs. and it was fairly compact. When I compared this to the Honda's it is higher output than the 2000 but less than the 3000 but not by that much. Decibal rating on the Honda is around 59db and the Husky is 71. I want to use this with my Avion C11 TC to run the AC, a microwave ( not at same time ) and possibly charge the batteries. Any advice is appreciated.

that is a contractor style unit and 71db is pretty loud...about the same a decent sized lawn tractor running at full throttle as far as sound.

I believe that it would be 2x2x2x2=16 times as loud.

OK so it looks like I'll pass on this unit as I do want a quiet one. I wonder what makes the Honda/Yamaha generators so quiet ? Is it just a better exhaust system ? Just wondering if a noisy generator like the Husky can be toned down without drastically hurting performance ? Thanks for the replies so far.

Every 3dB doubles the sound energy.

71 - 58 = 13db = over 4 times as loud

Your neighbors will not like you at any campground, and if you're boondocking, don't expect any wildlife to come near.

You are like me and have a truck camper. When i use my gen. i am out in the national forest or away from any services. So there fore I don't bother any one with my Champion. I did go to a blues festaval and used it, but there were so many other noises that i never heard it run...good luck and happy camping..

Several things make them quieter; inverter technology is the main reason. The engine is only running as hard as it needs to at the current demand, enclosed insulated housings and there are probably other reasons.
