I posted a while back and even though there were some good ideas, I'm still stumped. I live in an area with a a 30-mile radius of cities approaching 750,000 people. Descent size. Yet I cannot find a dealer to install 6 new 245/70r/19.5 tires that are less than 9 months old.

Now, most of us realize that tires need to be replaced in 5 years (and maybe 6 if we're pushing it) but the dealers are all offering tires that were made a year or longer ago. It doesn't take a math wizz to figure out if the tire is 1 year old when you buy it and it needs to be replaced in 5 years that when you walk out the door you just lost 20% unless you plan to drive the heck out of these things and average at least 12,000 miles per year.

I'm stumped and angry at wanting to pay $2-3,000 for a set of six and nobody is stepping up with a "newish" tire.

Try finding the tires you want online. A good-sized online distributor will move a lot more tires a lot faster than a local tire store and should have newer stock. I purchased a set of steer tires from Chicago Tire and they were only a couple of months old.

At the recommendation of Pat at Pro Tires in Denton TX we bought BF Goodrich ST230's. BF Goodrich was bought by Michelin. The tires were made in America and were new, all with same dates. Got them right away. Pat came to our RV site, took off the old tires, put the new ones on, balanced and alignment. Very pleased with the BF Goodrich tires (we had Toyos before). We have over 10,000 miles on them already with zero problems.

So, if you buy tires on line there is likely a shipping charge, and then the installation costs? Is this cost efficient even though the objective is to not buy old tires? Are tire dealers likely to want to install tires that they didn't sell you?

Have you tried getting tires at Clovis Drop Shop. They claim in goggle to have RV tires.

Seems like you have a Les Schwab up in your area. Try them. What I ended up doing for tires last year was find a place that does a lot of truck tires. I got tires that were three weeks old.

I had my tires. (6)...bought and installed...by my "local" Camping World store.
I asked for and saw the date of manufacture....2 months old. Price was comparable to other local stores....Goodyear, for instance.
Local Goodyear store was $4 more per tire, but only 3 miles from my house. They were more than willing to do the tires, but wanted noting to do with the shock absorbers that I needed. CW (40 miles from my house) had and did it all.
No problems. Tires, BTW, were Goodyear, 19.5.

I think folks make too big a deal about getting "fresh" tires. Since tires are stored in well ventilated warehouses, I don't think there sould be any concern about a tire that is within 3 years of its date of manufacture. Even tires that are at 6 years old - but unsold - are less of an issue than is commonly thought.

What really ages a tires is exposure to sunlight and heat. Operating a tire in Arizona is many times worse than a tire sitting in a warehouse in Minnesota.

Try calling TCI Tires. I see that there are 12 locations in California. They have a great price if you puirchase through FMCA and they are able to get them from the last batch made. It is important to remember that the tires that you are looking for are only made like twice a year. We used TCI and were very pleased with the entire process. Good Luck.
