I replaced all the house incandescents with LEDs. I bought my bulbs from

dealextreme.com

I needed G4s, T10s, and a few festoons. I tried some different bulbs and got warm white when possible. I've also bought chargers, cords, and other items with total satisfaction. Shipping can be real fast or real slow, but it's free.

As an example I replaced 4 10W reading lights with LEDs that were 1.2W. I noticed a polarity with the LEDs, if it didn't work I rotated it 180 degrees and it worked.

The Chinese are stealing technology the way the USSR and Japan did years ago. You never know what you will get when you order from eBay but I've purchased some 48 LED modules that are amazing for $2.79 delivered. Perhaps they stole this technology. . . .
Who knows but they are BRIGHT and warm!

There are a number of different 48 LED modules on eBay but the only one I could find that said "warm" was being sold by "dreambestbuy" for $2.78 with free shipping and none appear to list the color temperature. Could someone direct us to the correct 48 LED module if the unit being sold by dreambestbuy is not the correct warm module.

Correct is in the eyes of the beholder. That's the one that I bought and it appears warm when compared to others. I'd just order one to see if you like it and then order the remaining needed. See the above for $3.99 5050 advertised as warm also. I really do like the dreambestbuy $2,78 ones.

Hi William,

A BA9 is too small to fit an 1156.

1156 led replacement

oops! a 9mm is a bit small for a 16mm opening.....
yours looks like the best on eBay for a 1210SMD. I forgot that I hot wired my friend's old van.

I bought a couple of these to try. The adapter leads will be easy to solder directly to the connections on my 1156 brackets.

Looks like a great source and not too expensive, There are cheaper units on eBay but: Who knows who these little guys are and surely they would not lie
As above, I'd just buy one unit from eBay first to see if it is what you like then if so, go for them. Free shipping from China is only free if you don't return them, (Heck, it'd cost more to return than the original cost)

Got 2 of the 120 LED lamps in today.
Put them on the bench and tested them. They draw 19% of what the # 1156 incandescent bulbs draw. That means I can run FIVE of the LEDs for what one 1156 draws.

Can't tell much difference in brightness between them on the test bench. Big difference (besides a lot less power draw) is the LEDs only get mildly warm to the touch. After 10 seconds the #1156 will burn the skin off your hand.

When the 18 LED lamps get here I'll test them also and do temperature measurements on all of them.

The 120s took 17 days to get here (China to East Coast) and cost $4.69 each including shipping.

Edit:
Just got the 18 LEDs in. They draw .12 amps each. That means I can run 10 of them at once and they still don't draw as much as one 1156.

The LEDs run at 90 degrees. The 1156 measured 290 degrees.

What I don't like about LEDs is how they last a very white light with a blue tint to them. I have a 3-way battery lantern with one being an incandescent flashlight bulb, another being LEDs, and the third being a small orange LED (nightlight it's called). The LEDs seem to put out more light but seem harder on my eyes. I wonder if LEDs in a color temperature closer to incandescent can be had. I might get some and just swap them out when I am not plugged in to shore power but mostly use incandescent bulbs.. unless I can find some that put out light like incandescent and compact florescent do.

I had to put LEDs into the dash of my van. It boggles my mind how Dodge got away with making these vans with dashes that were impossible to see in the dark with the heradlights on. I put in ALL NEW incandescent bulbs into the dash and I could barely see it, same as when it had old bulbs. I put in some cheap LEDs from ebay and it made a world of difference. It's still pretty dark but not nearly as bad. It also changed the color of the gauges from green to a blueish tone which looks kind of nice. Here's a photo with LED on the left, incandescent on the right:

I have several double fixtures. One of the things I might try is putting an LED in the first side of a couple of the main ones and leaving the incandescent bulb in the second position. First click will light just the LED when on battery power. Moving the switch to the second position will turn on the incandescent bulb when the camper is plugged in and running on AC.

I still don't like all the heat the incandescent bulbs give off. Most of my lenses are brittle and cracked from the heat and need to be replaced.

Try the "warm whites" 48 led from eBay sellers for $2.79 to $2.81 delivered. I tried them and they are both very warm and bright.

Hmm, thanks for the tip. I wonder if I could make these work in the fixtures:

Mine are the small light fixtures that take a single 1156 bulb.
