................You've got one major mod too perform and then you're pretty much , through ! The auto tranny in your excurison is NOT capable of holding up too the increased hp\torque that the 7.3 will generate when operating under the performance parameters built onto the DP tuner !
................I installed a DP tuner in my 1999 F250 7.3 along with all the other items like exhaust , gauges , etc . , a short time later the clutch started slipping because it simply couldn't transfer the additional torque too the 6 speed trany . This happened even though I kept the tuner on the 40hp 'Tow' setting . So , don't be surprised when your stock auto trany starts slipping ! , jf

I posted on here back in January that I sold my 3500 dually diesel with a 6 speed and I bought my current rig in my sig.

Now with a very capable tow rig, a wonderful towing performance, and six new Maxxis tires, I am ready for camping.

Ok I'm confused...based on the above which tow rig do you have now....Excursion or Dually?

Just for my interest...you prefer the diesel Excursion over the 3500 diesel dually in regards to a capable tow rig?

I tow between 3,000-4,000 miles a year and since I have not towed more than 20 miles with the Excursion, I think passing judgement at this time is premature. I believe that the modifications that have been made to the Excursion have dramatically improved its towing performance so it would be closer. Plus I have way more room inside my truck, I have secured storage for my work stuff when its my daily driver, I have more room inside my garage, all the passengers can recline at any time which is important for me because we often travel at nights and the kids can sleep while one of us is driving, and there is room for my Great Dane inside the truck with us.

Glad to hear the Excursion is improved. I also currently have the Diesel Excursion with many modifications that have made a world of difference over the stock Excursion. Modifications include spring replacement (V code with mod B rear), shocks, larger rear sway bar, traction bars and use a ProPride hitch. Our previous tow vehicle was a 3500 Dodge quad cab dually which did have adustable Rancho 9000 shocks. I am able to compare the two as I have towed a lot with each. They each have advantages but overall I prefer the Excursion for the family. The pickup did not need the modifications that the Excursion needed but in the end both vehicles have complete control over the trailer. The Excursion has more room for the family and rides much better both towing and non-towing. We always felt like sardines packed into the quad cab (3 kids, small dog, wife and I). The advantages of the pickup is that it is ready to tow right off the dealers lot in stock form. The downside was the suspension was to stiff even with the rear shocks dialed down to 1 and the highway expansion joints would drive us crazy.
