So, yesterday we receive our package from CW. In about 5 business days wit hthe free shipping. As some of you will remember I posted a topic titled "Confused about shipping..." and was worried if we would receive our package on time for a trip next week. Well it proves that they were able to ship something to me in about 2 days as the order sat there until about Tuesday night or wednesday before going out. Of course if hty could speed up the process at the warehouse and get the packages picked up faster for shipping, that would bring an edge up for them.
But that is not my idea of how they could save money. Back to the package I received. The box was huge compared to what we ordered. All we ordered was a garden flag, garden flag pole (breaks down in 3 smaller pieces) and a suction cup small flag holder. At first I wondered if i accidently ordered the maxxair vent covers. That's how big this box was. I measured it and it was 21" tall x 23" long x 17.5" wide. THere was over 15 ft of packing paper loosely plade in on top of the product. The produt was laying on the bottom flat. The tallest part of the product was not much more than an inch tall.
The package was light, and i'm sure there was not an overly charger for weight. But this was something that could of been placed in a much, much smaller box or even a padded envelope and I would imagine it would end up being cheaper to package and mail. This would of been one of those times "if it fits, it ships". Hate to know what the shipping cost was for CW on a $18 order. Maybe the problem lies within the packing department.
Here's a picture of the items in the box after removing the packing paper.

Kind of a big box but I've had the same thing from other companies over the years. Seems like a waste but you're not at the warehouse and it might have been the smallest box they had at the time and you're waiting for an order. Depending on the shipping agreement they have it could also be a standard size box with a set cost no matter how heavy or full. You got your order on time and that was your main concern.

Sometimes the box size has to do with the packing machines they use. Can't use a small box if the line is set up for a bigger box.

3 stickers on the side for the 3 different items.
Est weights:

I hope those are not pounds, but ounces. UPS sticker on top says 5lbs. No way it was near that amount. Maybe half that amount.
All in all I understand this might happen elsewhere, but it appears to me that if Marcus wants to save some money, they might want to look this direction. My 10 yr old just about fit in the box.

It may not save shipping costs but putting merchandise in smaller boxes would at least decrease the recyclable waste, including the packing material.

Sounds like maybe Marcus should go "Undercover Boss" and see some of these things for himself.
