It may not save shipping costs but putting merchandise in smaller boxes would at least decrease the recyclable waste, including the packing material.

That is true as well. I would imagine smaller boxes might cost a little less as well for them to purchase.

This stuff was shipped in a couple days by UPS ground. As Neal has mentioned, their volume is no where near the size of others like amazon. Thus, their shipping costs are higher. I imagine there is more cost for shipping a box of the size this one is other than a small box. I know at the post office that if a box is larger than a certain size, no matter the weight, then there is additional cost.

Good God! Wish I had time to worry about a box. Ever think they buy bulk and it cheaper to carry one size box opposed multiple sizes???

But, your merchandise arrived undamaged.

A few years back I ordered a pair of large, quite heavy stereo speakers. According to UPS tracking, they were at three different UPS locations before final delivery to my home. They arrived with seven dents in each speaker, once for each time a UPS person handled them and then dropped them. The last drop was on my porch and I could hear it hit the concrete even with the doors closed. The UPS guy rang our doorbell and was gone.

I'll take overkill on the packaging anytime. In fact, if I am ordering anything breakable, if the cost difference is not totally outrageous, I will pay extra for express shipping just so the merchandise is only handled once rather than loaded and off-loaded so many times.

One thing with a larger box there is less chance of it getting lost in transit like a small box

johntichy - i'm sure they have smaller boxes

jim, rosemary, sandy - my posting was not about damage. The size of the box had nothing to do with whether or not it would get damaged. The 15+ feet of packing paper was in there very loosely. The contents were not secure or anything.

othertonka - I thought aboutthat too, but I also thought it was more space on the truck. Which believes me to think more cost to ship as it's taking up more space. They also do charge depending on dimensions.

This just feedback to Marcus and Scott. Perhaps they are not aware of this and this information could help them curb some of the costs there.
