Hi All,
Will be installing a Fantastic Fan tomorrow. Checking out the kit and they reccomend you use thier "close cell foam gasket". I have always used butyl tape around fan/vent installs. Should I go to the old standby butyl tape or go with fantastic fan's new fangled gasket? Appreciate any thoughts...
Thanks

I put one in two wimter ago while down south I used their foam type gasket. Tightened all the screws then waited overnight (didn't have to worry about any rain ) and then retightened the screws. Probably got an extra 1/2 turn on the screws (by hand) Then applied Dicor around the perimeter and over the screw heads. No leaks so far

Our three are installed with their gasket and have never leaked. If it were me I would be using their product, it's their fan and they have an awesome warranty, so why screw with a proven method and product....

I tossed their gasket and used butyl tape followed up by Dicor. 8 years later and we've never had a leak. Sounds like either way you go it will work.

x2 waiting on my new fan, hope to install it this week... plus installing the travel / bad weather covers. they keep the vent cover from rattling in strong winds.

Thanks all....If I can get all the Butyl Tape cleaned up from the previous vent, I will use thier gasket (as the instructions say to make sure it is very clean so the gasket can seal). If not, I will use Butyl tape as I think it adapts to a less than perfect surface better.
