Be sure that if you buy a single-purpose older car, there is an agreement as to how the maintenance will be handled. Also, don't let it just sit between camping trips. Someone should drive it at least to the store every couple of weeks, to be sure everything is working right. Letting it sit between trips is a great way to end up stranded in the middle of nowhere and ruining what should be a fun time.

Option 4.

I would get out of the deal and buy my own RV. What you are contemplating is a recipe for disaster and sure to eventually cause hard feelings among family members. You left it dirty! You used all the gas! You left the toilet plugged up! You must have hit something!

Even if you have the perfect family and avoid all conflicts, it will be awfully crowded if you wish to camp together in one RV.

Wow. I say you and your wife buy your own truck and let the others worry about it.
You could even rent out the truck to your sister and make a return on it. ; )

Another thing to look at is full-size passenger vans and used conversion vans. They tend to be priced lower than comparable SUVs (Expedition, Excursion, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban) or even mid-size SUVs, because original prices were lower and vans have not been "hot" in the consumer market since SUVs took over. Most of what is available is from commercial and institutional uses.

Under $10K at under 100,000 miles is about where the market is for Econoline wagons 6 to 10 years old in this area, and under $5000 as you get back into the '90s.

If you can put together more money, and want to think long term for a carry the whole family, pull most anything vehicle, one sweet spot is the almost new passenger van coming off lease or from a rental companies with 20K to 40K miles, just under $20,000. These would be current model year or last year, and they are almost always E-350s, seats for 12 or 15.

A rarer find is the 40-60,000 mile, 4-6 year old church van at $12,000 to $15,000. When these come on the market at a price like this, they tend to be snapped up pretty fast by another church that can't afford to buy new vans every 4-6 years.

If you guys agree to share camper that seems fine however It appears to me that you(the OP) are the one that needs a tow vehicle. Your brother has the 4 Runner. Your dad has the Rav 4. But you are without a TV. Get your own TV and problem is resolved. You and your wife will have to come up with your own plan for a tow vehicle that she can use as a daily driver.
Sharing RV is tough enough. Sharing TV as well is too problematic as you are finding out.
