Do the scheduled maint per the manual, whether you do it yourself or at the dealer make certain to use motorcraft parts. Do drain the seperator and i always try to get my fuel at a station that is heavily used by big rigs.

Mine came with the NAV, it wasnt on my list of must haves, but after LEARNING how to use it i love it...most people that complained about the SYNC system are too lazy to read the manual.

Thanks, all you guys! This is exactly what I wanted out of this post. I have so many questions, I don't know where to start. Thanks for sharing your expertise with me.

Man draining the fuel filter at each fill up seems a little demanding for me.

I have since long time ago quit draining mine. I change the filter about once a year on the old girl. never had a WIF light

The early 99 has 167K miles on it now.

I couldn't see spending $1800 on that nav system. No one seems to be very happy with it. Ford has a patch for the sync system that you can get from your Ford dealer, it comes on a usb drive. For nav we just use a laptop and DeLorme.

I've got my 150 dollar Garmin. Gets the job done. No opting for navigation for me. That is one very expensive option.

Got lifetime upgrading of my Garmin, and can move it to any vehicle I drive.

It will even work in a 1961 Ford Falcon.

I made the comment to a new 2012 ford owner about the water drain. He looked it up in the manual and showed me where it is located. I was suprised on the great location it was for an easy drain.

I have one waiting at the Ford dealers and I plan to get one of those vehicle log books. And I'm going to log every tank of diesel the fact that I added the Ford additive. That's Motorcraft PM-22-A. And log every other maintenance item. Ford has at least in a few cases denied warranty coverage for HP Fuel pump problems (up to $12000 to fix). I'm also draining the diesel filter at every fuel stop and logging that.
That is a very good plan.

Pretty bad the stuff you have to do with the Fords to keep the warranty. I just get in my Dodge and go.
I completely agree.

As far as the fuel pump problem, I truly believe it will get fixed eventually, as both GM and Ford use this very same pump in the 6.7L Ford and the newest GM Duramax engine.
I would certainly hope so!

We went to Boise this past week with absolutely no intention of buying a new truck. Our plans were to look seriously come September for end of year sales. We went to dealer showrooms just to browse and stumbled upon a fantastic sale that was even more generous than I could ever have hoped to negotiate. We ended up coming home with our dream truck that we have been patiently (impatiently?) saving up for 9 years. The objective here was to buy our very last truck before retirement that would be able to handle any trailer we would care to upgrade to in the future with no worries as to whether it would be able to handle it.
Congrats on your new truck and best wishes in your retirement journey.
