An interesting thing happened to me on I 5 OR 3 days ago.
we were trying to Make Camping World at Exit 283 but it was raining like crazy and blowing us around- so it was down to 50 mph. I came to the advertising for Pilot at 263 and elected to pull off for the night as I had a one month Wifi subscription with them.
I parked off in a lot beside the station and the horn on my towed went off. I went out and saw my Baja lights on. I opened the drivers door and there was platic dripping on floor mat and flames. I ran to the coach for my fire extinguisher and found it on E for Empty not enough- luckily there was a tow truck behind me and he pulled out his extinquisher and we put out the fire. I disconnected the battery and went inside out of the rain. The next morning We pulled it to Camping World and they directed me to a small mechanical operation called Wilsonville Auto.
Mike the owner got me on the phone with the ICBC adjuster and the bottom line is we towed it to my current location(ICBC called it at owners expense) in Victoria BC. The lady on the phone was very good and sort of talked me into doing the sensible thing of towing it home
No unhook possible to save a few bucks on the Black Ball!
I am hoping to see an adjuster tomorrow.
The due dilligence is FIRE EXTINGUISHERS.
Can you imagine what would have happened if I had of pressed on to Camping World- a fire fighter said I was 3 mins from a flaming car!!
The fuse block is fused together!!

«I think it was something to do with the fuse block. Ignition was on as I drive with the bypass case and transmission in neutral so that means that the key is in accesory mode.

Glad nothing worse occured, could have been nasty. Glad you stopped.
I check my extinguishers once a year. Think I'll check them again tomorrow.

extinguishers are cheap insurance.
I have a total of eight between my truck, trailer and Polaris Ranger, which is usually in the toyhauler.
The ones they sell in the marine section at wallyworld (they are for jetskis) are less than ten bucks and they can be stored anywhere.

I alwasy keep one in the tow vehicle and the camper. One thing I learned a few years ago, is that the powder in them will settle and get packed. So a couple times per year, you need to get them out and shake them up a bit to keep the powder loose inside. in addition to checking the charge of course.

I've set a calendar reminder in my cell phone to do a monthly check of my two fire extinguishers (I believe my owner’s manual for the RV also states to do a monthly check). The check involves pressing the button on top, checking the gage, and shaking the fire extinguishers. It takes just a couple of minutes for peace of mind.
On a side note – be sure to do a weekly (or at least monthly) test of the fire/smoke alarm and the CO2 alarm. One time (after I hadn’t tested mine for a while) I pressed the test button on the smoke alarm and nothing happened. The battery had swelled and split. Luckily I caught it before any damage was done to the smoke alarm. Now I faithfully test my alarms.

Glad everyone is safe. Thanks for the reminder about extinguishers, at the top of my to do list before I head out in a couple of weeks.

I have 4 fire extinguishers, 2 are disposables, two are refillables and are checked often, at least once a week since they have gages,
I also have a pressurised water bottle, this is a simple garden sprayer, lives next to a tank of helium that sits atop the propane tank.
Somehow I think a gallon and a half of water, in a plastic bottle,
OR a couple hundred cubic feet of non-reactive (Inert) Gas, In the area of the propane tank... Might just be a good thing should fire ever happen.

Calendar reminder is a good idea but it is a CO detector, not CO2. You exhale CO2.
Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.
