Never had a problem in a truck stop, rest area or parking lot.

The only thing I have encountered was a dice scam at a rest stop once. I saw a bunch of people around this guy. Among the crowd were several truckers. One of which came over to my door and banged on it while we were cooking dinner in the fiver. He says "you gotta come over and check this out". My momma didn't raise no dummy. I later saw the truck driver and the guy with the dice splitting the proceeds.

Have you ever seen a police video of a shootout? I would be worried about being caught in a police cross fire then a group of armed citizens. Citizens practice more often than police officers. Police officers only get to practice for free twice a year. Not meaning to bash any police here, just stating facts.

There is an institute that keeps stats on people killed with guns (funded through the FBI I think). They get their data by obtaining the police reports. They track the caliber, the number of rounds fired, and the number of hits.

Bad guys: 15% hits.
Police: 18% hits.
Average gun toting citizen: 85%

Nice thing about Rvs, if you don't like the neighbor you can always move. Can't do that with a stick house.
We lock up and put everything away ... only thing ever missing was some firewood.

Never had a problem camping with my camper.
Back in the 1970s we would frequently tent camp along a river in the mountains. Not a public campsite. One weekend different State troopers stopped by a couple of times to ask us if everything was alright and if we'd seen anyone else around. The next day another stopped and told us there'd been trouble in the area and we should pack up and leave. When we asked what kind of trouble he just said real bad and we should leave. We packed up and got out.

When we got home we found out someone had killed a couple of campers in the middle of the night about a half mile from us and they thought he was still in the area as someone else was attacked.

Right now we're full-timing in a TVA campground near Chattanooga. Most of the folks here are seasonal campers, with their occupations varying from nuclear plant workers to DEA agents. It gets a little louder on the weekends with the day use folks using the lake, most of the time you can hear a pin drop after 10 p.m. Needless to say we'll stay here until winter time, as we feel safer than in our mother's arms between the lawmen in the campground and the TVA Police office at the entrance to the campground.

The DW has heat and knows how to use it. So far in all of the years we've been camping we've never felt the need to use it. But we exercise situational awareness and don't keep our head up our @$$. We learned that years ago living in Europe where folks like us were tempting terrorist targets.

I live in TN. Are you talking about at Watt's Bar? I never heard of any TVA CGs in the Chattanooga area.

It really depends on location. I was asked to do consulting at a RV park a couple hundred miles from where I live that had RVs (travel trailers and class Cs) on blocks, and the wheels were not removed by the owner.

On the other hand, I've personally yet to hear about anything getting stolen in this area of central Texas. I'm sure some people have had generators that were not chained down walk off in state parks, but that happens anywhere.

The thieves who have cost me very dearly in this life have all been wearing ties and business suits and work in brokerage houses and banks along with the members of Congress in their pockets. These are the people that take the life savings, the homes, and often even the lives of millions of Americans not to mention their victims overseas. The rest is small change.
