We will be traveling to New Orleans for the first time in many years and the very first time in a Motorhome.
Any suggestions for a clean, safe place not too far out?

Ponchatrain Landing served us well last year in October. Pricey, but safe, spaciaus sites and a shuttle to take you downtown. Some folks we met stayed at the downtown "compound". Fine if you don;t mind being surrounded by high walls with barbed wire on top. Regardless, a good time.

If you happen to be retired military or otherwise have access to military installations, New Orleans Naval Air Facility has a brand new and very nice Fam Camp.

Bayou Segnette is a really nice state park across the river from New Orleans in Westwego. Reasonable cost for the area. Large, open sites (water & electric only), picnic table and grill at each site, some sites have wooden decks. Wave pool in park ($), a couple of hiking trails, and shopping close by. Dump station at the entrance (exit) to the camping area. About 15 minutes to the Algiers Ferry which lets you off at the foot of the French Quarter. Parking nearby and the ferry is free.

French Quarter RV Resort puts you right in the middle of it all. We enjoyed our stay there.

We've stayed here twice....it is very safe and secure, you can get a golf cart ride to the quarter. Gated small campground, nice pool, laundry ect....Although some may suggest against it, we walked to and from the quarter everyday. However, I'm not one that is afraid to do so and some may not be comfortable with the 2 block or so walk but we never felt ill at ease while doing it.

We've stayed at French Quarter RV Resort three times.
Very nice but there is a lot of road noise from the freeway, sirens mostly.
The closer to the office the quieter it is.
