Hello I am new to this site, and would like to post a message with a pic inserted. I created an account on Flickr and uploaded photos there. I tried to post a message and used the "image" icon, cut and pasted the url link in the box. When I click on preview the image, the message comes up with an X where the pic should be. Is that the correct way to load a pic in the message?

It is the correct way but you must make certain that the picture is available to the public. On Flickr the default is a restricted photo unless you specifically change the setting.
Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.

Flickr is not forum friendly - any forum. From their quidelines:
The direct link to a photo file is no longer shown on the page. Per the Flickr Community Guidelines "pages on other websites that display content hosted on flickr.com must provide a link from each photo or video back to its page on Flickr." Linking directly to the photo file doesn't do this.
To display a picture on this forum requires a direct link to the photo. If one can find the direct link, it would work, but violate their guidelines. Here is what a direct URL looks like,
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7275/7038385169_860295b8dc.jpg"
In fact, that is the URL for your picture.
I suggest that you choose another host site. In the FAQs at the top of Forum Technical Support, you can find tutorials for on how to use 4 different host sites. Look in the Posting pictures in text section.

I just right click on the mouse and select properties then copy the URL HTTP address. Then pull down the Image ICON here and paste that info into it the HTTP address line - select a height only size (Leave the width blank) and it works. I just copied the RV.net logo here on this page to demo what I did...
When I store my pictures on Photobucket or like your flicker program I usually end up with the same problem. Only a RED X shows up. I think it all hangs on which format to select to post on different forums. It sure isnt as easy as adding photos to emails haha...
Reading the forum instructions helps but I still have problems.
You can right click on the RV.NET logo I just sent and copy its properties info and post that with your text for test if you like...
Have to be careful doing that though. Some sites frown on you stealing their bandwidth. Funny I would know that. hehehehe

Use photobucket. Do everything you said you did on flickr and it should work.
If you come across a pic on the web you want to share, just right click on that pic then click on "save picture as" then just pick the file you want to save it in. Than just go to photobucket and upload that pic from the file you have it in.
Photobucket is easy for resizing as well. Forum policy is to keep pixels between 600x300. (I think)
Good luck and welcome to the forum!

Thanks Tom...
I eventually get posted what I want to show but it sure isnt easy for a old dawg like me...
My biggest problem now is setting up album folders in PHOTOBUCKET or WEBSHOTS where I can quickly get to them.
It amazes me to no end how folks on here use their Cellphone cameras and take photos and immediatley post them on here. It is so fast it looks like just CLICK-CLICK on their part...
Being retired i should just stop all I am doing and finaly whip up on the problem haha...
