Hi All,

Has anyone driven the Trans Labrador highway recently? We are thinking of making the loop this June-July.

Specifically need info on - fuel, boondocking, sites we shouldn't miss and -of course- the road condition.

We've read the posts on this and checked out the websites, but could really use some updates on the new section of the road.

This site has a lot of useful information
Trans Labrador Highway
I too am interested in doing this trip. I will watch this thread for any RV'ers that may contribute their experience.

Make sure to google each town. Each one has it's own special places.

When I went there 6 years ago, the roads were graded very regularly. Older sections had more boondocking options than new sections of the road.

Make sure you stop where there are good breezes, as in this:

but not this:

Route 389 in Quebec is also very interesting and there are the Quebec generating station tours (en francais) to compare with that of Churchill Power Station.

& I, I took the road less travelled by.

I have spent a lot of hours this winter looking at this trip.

Here is the best example of the road, from the Quebec side as far as

Happy Vally Goose Bay, after that a run down the 510 to the ferry to Newfoundland or in the reverse if you go East to West....

Those two on the bikes are not wasting anytime, this was taken in June of last year. So parts may even be better now after the summer work schedule was completed.

Hazards would appear to be the usual dirt road stuff, flat from a sharp rock when going to fast, chips from passing vehicles, eating dust when being passed or following to close.

The area looks pretty scrubby, and of course you cannot see the flys on their video...

Speed limit on the Trans Labrador is 70 km. Keep to that or below. You're not a low small car.

Unfortunately, being on dialup, I can't seem to download the Adobe Flash Reader in order to see the pics. Have been seriously thinking about undertaking this trip back to Newfoundland.

Ask a question in Technology Corner http://forums.woodalls.com/Index.cfm/fuseaction/listings/forum/38.cfm re. downloading on dialup. Back when I was on dialup, I could get these things, but slowly.

I would hope there are some members who could give you the how to.

Adobe Flash Player is used by quite a few sites and very useful.

Thanks Woodhog!

The YouTube videos are great.

I think we've made our decision - we're going.

We made the trip from Baie Comeau to Goose Bay in 2008 in our Ford Focus. We had no problems, except icebergs delayed the ferry boat to Newfoundland. Last year we drove the Focus and pulled a Little Guy teardrop the opposite way. After spending three great weeks in Newfoundland, we took the ferry to Blanc Sablon. The first hundred miles were paved. Then its 90 miles of average gravel to Port Hope Simpson, and gas. Then its 250 miles of gravel to Goose Bay. This is new gravel and the road drove great. From Goose Bay to Labrador City its about 300 miles. Almost a third of it is new chip sealed blacktop. The other drives good. The first 2/3 of the drive from Lab City to Baie Comeau is old gravel, with lots of pot holes. The final third is old pavement. We enjoyed the route all three times (the first time we had to backtrack back to Baie Comeau). We are looking forward to doing this trip again someday. We would be glad to answer any specific questions. Have a great drive. Gas can be found without any problem. The only iffy part is from Port Hope Simpson to Goose Bay.
