We drive in the daylight. Same reasons as others do. We like to see the scenery and old eyes and ears aren't as good as before. Also, not just deer, but other wildlife is usually wandering around at night. And then there's the drunks out on the roads heading home from the bars....

In addition to the reasons stated above, pulling into a campsite at 8AM is not great as most have check outs around 11AM. Do you pay for an extra night?

I drive at night on any trip that would take 6 or more hours. When I get home from work the day before, I cant sleep anyway, I am too pumped up for my looooong awaited vacation. I find it to be very relaxing. I am way ahead of time to check in. I drive slower, getting great fuel mileage, the traffic is minimal, which makes it a pleasure for merging and making lane changes in congested areas. No long lines at fuel stations, The coffee tastes better, more parking available whenever I want to pull over to stretch my legs or take a fur friend out. The rest of the family usually sleeps thru it. Almost every time we reached our destination, we were allowed to get to our site in the AM instead of posted check in time. A few exceptions would be the Blue Ridge Parkway, Coastal Maine or other scenic routes, where I can travel 35-45 mph max and enjoy the view.

Full timing it since July 2012 My pics

I drive at night when I feel it's just too hot to drive in the day.

I like hitting the road at 3am. When I start to get tired it's day light and I'm good to go for the whole day. Stop about 4pm.

Towing, I’m unlikely to drive at night because I want to see the country. That doesn’t preclude me from leaving home in the middle of the night if that schedule works better and the first few hours is all familiar territory anyway. Once in new country, though, it’s all daylight driving. Then, too, it can be awkward finding a good camp spot in the boonies after dark.

I routinely do a lot of solo night driving if its long distance destination driving and its familiar road. If it’s new country I’ll want to see it and again am less likely to drive after dark. Wildlife doesn’t deter me from night driving but I am more alert and drive slower in that country.

Depends on where I'm going, and when I need to be there. But it is cooler, and less traffic at night

We have done 3 trips with night driving over the years, none with the RV.

We live in BC and even though we have driven a route many times, it is always beautiful and there is something new to see.

The three night trips were down the I5 from the BC border to California, we had to make time, but find it takes a lot out of us. One cannot sleep in a moving vehicle, so arrives tired and grumpy.

We are limited on how early we can leave home by the ferry schedule. First boat is not until 5:15 am, which means a 3:30 start.

We are more likely to plan driving around rush hour in city we may be near.
