Good question.
Fact is that chicken is very bland and almost tasteless. Boil some up with no spices and you'll see. So if you cook chicken and some other meat to be named later, with similar spices or oils, it is no surprise that they taste similarly.

Are you asking about Franken Chicken, mechanically separated chicken, or the chicken our grandparents ate?

What does chicken taste like?
Good question. TO answer it I will give you an answer from an "official" source.
McDonalds
And a comment on something from KFC
A spokesperson for McDonalds stated that when they developed Chicken McNuggets they were trying for a product with exactly NO taste..
I congratulate them on their success.
In fairness... he went on to say the idea was that the nuggets would pick up flavor from the sauce so they could have 4 or 5 products (Different flavors) without the need for a lot of inventory.
KFC... Says their chicken pieces taste better than McNuggets (NO surprise there)
And never forget KFC is **NOT** Kentucky Fried Chicken, it is a vastly inferior product solid in what used to be Kentucky Fried Chicken stores back when Mr. Sanders ran the business.
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

Coming from back in the day when my Mom or Grandmother would go out, grab a chicken by the head that was walking around in the yard, ring it's neck, clean it and fry it for supper that night, there is not a lot that taste like chicken. However, many things today taste like today's chicken that was raised in a cage and never saw the light of day.

Heritage breeds or whatever they call real chicken does have taste.
The modern frankenbird they raise from chick to the cleaver in six weeks does not taste like chicken or much else. It is now, the filler, in chicken dishes etc now. The condiments and marinades, herbs, wine, sauces and so forth provide the taste.
I'm trying to figure out how to keep critters from getting the chickens first before I put in a small coop. They control the bugs and provide some fertilizer, which isn't noticeable in a large yard or field, eggs and meat.

But you have to give KFC credit for one thing. Through cutting edge gene splicing, they've apparently developed a chicken that has no breasts but instead has two wings, three thighs and three legs. If you don't believe me, buy an eight piece bucket of KFC chicken and see if you can find a breast in there.

I do not agree that chicken is bland. I bake my chicken breasts. Boneless, skinless breasts from various suppliers have unique flavors that come out depending on the kind of chicken and what they feed on.
