We hope to be heading to Alaska in late May from TN. It all depends on results from a doctor's tests and I am very hopeful. We are really excited about the trip. It is our first trip and we have waited for it for a long time. Our plan is to cross into Canada at Sweetgrass, MT. Rob and Di, I do hope we get to see you again as we did in Newfoundland. We will surely be looking for you.

We too will be heading out for Alaska from Central Florida mid to latter part of June if all goes well. This also will be our first extended trip and I am so excited and anxious to get going. Look at routes everday, and find something else to see along the way. DH retiring and this will be the long awaited retirement voyage. Son and family flying into Anchorage first part of August to stay with us for about two weeks. Hope to see ya'all down the road !!

We hope to get back on the road to Alaska from 37774 late May to mid June, if we can work out some medical issues also. If we make it, this will be our 4th round trip since 2003.
I first drove the Alaskan Hwy south bound the last week of November 1962. There have been a lot of changes.

Can't imagine what it was like to drive the Alcan in 1962, King27. Our first driving trip was 2000. We feel in love with AK on a fly/boat trip in 1993 and promised as soon as we retired we would buy a motorhome and go back for the summer. We did and have been going every other summer since (except for 2010). Hope to see all y'all and more this summer.

P.S. With record snowfalls I'm not looking forward the critters we will encounter (the small ones called the state bird ... mosquitoes)

In 1962 there were over 1200 miles of unpaved, gravel highway. During the last week of November, I saw no gravel. It was all snowpacked, along with fresh snow. Very smooth driving.
The road had many more curves that have been rerouted. As you drive the road today, you may notice places that veer off to the right or left where the "old road" was.

Hi Ted- The Alaska Hwy is about 40 miles shorter now than it was in 1962. I made my first trip in 1962 as well. Up in early June and back south in late August. It was enough time to convince me to move to Nome in 1964. No more ranch life for this Okie after I had seen some of Alaska. Had planned to stay in the north for only 3 years but stayed 25+ years.

Truer words were never spoken, both about the Alcan and about Alaska.
