I'm with the 1/2 tank fill-up group. Have had to disconnect a time or two (or more ) Usually when I get in trouble is "I can't make that, oh, think maybe I can.." Go with FIRST thought! Once in a while, we get to the campground, get our site, unhook, leave the toad and go back to a gas station to fill. Not the easy way, but it is an option. I like to come in with a full-tank to the cg.

I've gotten so good that I can get in and out of those "Murphys" at a Wallmart. Just keep to the outside lanes and there should be no problems.

We only drive 300-350 miles per day. At night we unhook the towd and go out to dinner, then check out local gas stations in the area,to find the best access,to pumps. Not all truck stops have easy access to GAS pumps. In the morning we fill up,before getting on the highway.

not all that big of a deal, look for stations with parallel pumps to the road or have plenty of room to get out if not...remember to check the height of the canopies as well, most will have plenty of clearance but always verify if it looks iffy..

I try to use the book "THE NEXT EXIT" the ones in red will tell me if the station is big enough for me and the tow. Were I go the tow goes. If it is real close I ask DW to get out and watch. Has worked for many years for me

I think it may depend on where you're at in the Country because I almost never have problems getting my 35' DP with a Dodge Dakota toad into and out of gas stations. Most of my travels are California and in the Western states and I always find stations with plenty of room. Now if I have gone through the Los Angeles area a few times and I just make sure I have plenty of fuel on board so I don't have to worry about finding a place down there. I can get over 700 miles on a full tank so if I'm going to go into a major metro area I just fill up before going in.

As many know, I'm NOT in the "1/2 tank, look for gas" group. 1/2 tank means I've got roughly 250mi of range left. So unless I'm travelling in some very remote area, I wait till I'm down around a 1/4 or so. When my "low fuel" warning comes on, I've got about 75-100mi left, plenty of time.
Also, since I drive by myself sometimes and have a rear fill, I just turn on my backup camera when I pull in to the pump island. I creep forward until I can just see the edge of the pump, and I know I'm positioned properly for the hose to reach.

We use a variety of methods already mentioned.
In general we totally avoid Flying J's and all truck stops, as we've found the majority of them on the east coast aren't particularly friendly for gas RV's.
We use The Next Exit and Exit Now to find an exit that has several gas stations and, preferably, a few big box stores. We go in the direction that has the most gas stations. Usually one will work. If not, the big box stores provide for an easy turnaround.
For one long trip DH used Google Earth and plotted out gas stations ahead of time.
Sometimes in the mornings we'll wait to hook up the toad until we find a gas station and fill up the RV. DH drives the RV and oldest DS or I follow in the toad. Then we hook up the toad at the gas station if there's enough room, or we find a big parking lot or drive to the next rest area. The toad usually needs a little exercise anyway.

With an on board generator I never let the tank get close to 1/4 cause it won't work after that........ By the time I have driven 1/2 tank it is time to stop for a break anyway! Also never stop for the evening without at least 1/2 tank. Generally fill it up first. Spent a night in Nebraska with city wide power outage and had to run generator all night to keep cool and almost ran out of fuel.
