We would put gas in this old mans 1968 Toroado. We did this when he drove another car to the bank, he was so happy he was getting nearly 20 mpg. Then a couple weeks later we would take out some gas and he would get only 4 or 5 mpg. It was lots of fun, we told him 6 months later.
2005 Chev 5.3 Supercharged 395HP 425 T hp. Two wheels on front, 2 on back. one seat, tint windows. front and rear bumpers, headlights, windows. Door on each side. Heater, floor mats, 6 Reese candy bars, junk behind seats, some dirt. Pulls so hard.
I have exactly the same MH and realistic numbers you can expect will be between 9 to 11 mpg. That little 260 hp engine is not a fuel hog at all. I'm never the first one to the top of the hill, but I'm usually the last one to the pump.
I tow a 3100 lb Suzuki Grand Vitara. Sweet spot is 62 mph.

Well guys and gals, as to the retired CPA, those are the actual gallons used and the miles traveled, except for the tenths left off the mileage. I am a very happy camper.
The I had the cruise set about 95% of the time at 58 MPH, I'm retired and in no hurry, I stay in the right lane and let the world hurry by.
I'll keep you posted when we fill it up again.
We will be leaving here Thursday morning heading for Davenport Ia. Will be playing my Guitar and singing in the Assembly of God Church in Davenport for Easter. The Pastor is a former Chaplin of the Chaffee VFW, when I was the Commander.
From Davenport, we will head down 61 back home in about next Monday.

I probably average 10...sometimes 9.8, sometimes 11.1...but usually around 10 when I use my 98' 5.9L ISB engine to pull a 9K 5th wheel. I have a 4x4, and didn't know anything about towing when I bought it with the lowest axle ratio. Probably would have been better off with the 3.73 or 4.11 --- but mine is a 3.5 something...
while im not independently rich, i dont check mileage as much as i did when i first started rving. i have to go there(anywhere) and i have to take my motorhome, because of my job. . some have too, others do so because they want to. it boils down to if you cant afford the fuel, you cant afford a rv.
relax, enjoy the view and realize you are fortunate to be doing what others wish they could too. when the time comes that i cant afford my rv, i will still be tenting. it in the blood.
Hey MGySgt, Thats why I'm satisfied with my smaller cat 3126E, Although it's only 330hp 860ft lbs it does well on the milage 8-10, solid 10 at 55-60. Glad you had a good trip.
I have a running mpg log that I have maintained for 8 years and almost 100k miles. Some days this old gasser (8.1 L Chevy) will get 8 mpg - eastbound across Kansas with a string tail wind, and others it will get 5.5 mpg with headwind and net elevation gain. since I have logged every mile and every gallon on my spreadsheet I can honestly say it averages 6.5 mpg over the long haul.
If that should drop for an extended series of fills, I would know to look for engine/tire/transmission issues.

Sometimes there is an outside influence.. Now my coach routinely gets 8 MPG, up to 10 if I wax it (Which I am doing in a bit).
Coming across Texas a few years ago I was reading on the internet about the 14mpg motor home.. My MPG indicator wss showing average 13.8 (close enough)
Why... Well, let me put it this way.. Tumble weeds were going straight down the road in the very same direction I was and passing me like I had the brakes on.
Wind speeds doing 90 MPH with gusts to 110.
Did not affect the RV handling (Did affect it) because they were absolutly DEAD astern but let me tell you it was fun when I parked for the night.

There are so many factors that determine mpg. I personally have seen over 12 mpg on our C7 Cat....but I have also seen 6 mpg. I record every mile of every trip we take and compute the mpg at every fill up. With now a little over 30,000 miles, our overall mpg is 8.7.....
So, keep a good record and come back to us after you have put a few thousand miles on your rig and let us know what your overall mpg is. One computation just isn't enough to get excited over.....altho it does make you feel real good at the moment.
