All sides are welcome to express their opinions. However, when it gets nasty, that is when bad things happen

Here is my opinion. If you do not like what you are reading close the thread and move on. Which, is what I intend to do.

One good reason to be prudent and have a weapon is the things we saw in the Southwest.
We saw many situations where multiple police agencies were searching the sides of roads culverts etc for possibly drug runners and whatever else.
The Big Bend area and others are in a troubled region. There are many many Agencies working on problems. They aren't standing around waiting on doughnuts.
We bypassed some areas we really would like to try boon docking. Best to stay away but it is not possible to stay away when the problems are spreading everywhere. Just have to be prepared and prudent or stay in other regions.

The original poster was more concerned about how and why a RV forum would discuss gun issues. Further whether a RV forum would have a unique view on use of firearms.

I believe the posts in general in this thread have indicated that the RV forum does provide more focused data on firearms and RVs than gun forums or Constitutional law sites can. Further, this thread also provides a general guide on how and what should be discussed on firearms in this forum.

In the scope of this thread, all the issues around firearm ownership, efficacy, legality, jurisdiction, etc. are not part of this thread.

I understand no politics but firearms and the carry of them is part of the RV community and quite honestly all communities.

If any thread gets out of control such as personal attacks I would not punish the entire conversation but privately admonish the poster responsible and delete their posts.

IMO of course.

I would like it if there were a general understanding among the public that most (if not all) RV'ers were also self-protectors.......and that the belief that most (if not all) RV'ers were good people to leave alone would by itself be a deterrent, so that those who do keep protection would never have to be threatened.

If you try that on the pet forum you will be run out of town on a rail with the moderators leading the charge. I have just stayed out of the conversation more lately on both subjects as my views do not seem to be in lock step with the gun hating, pet loving public.

I don't quite understand what you mean here. I don't think anyone who likes pets would care that you don't. BTW, we love pets and now have 3 cats. We have "arms" in the house and anyone who breaks in when we're home takes their lives in their hands.
