I called a mobile sat guy out to check satellite system to see if it was wired correctly or not, as last owner said it all should work fine...which I know doesn't mean a thing now......haha! He even couldn't get satellite to lock on 119 for dish network. HE USED A PORTABLE DISH TO ALIGN WITH SATELLITE AND PROGRAMMED THE NEW RECEIVER. Then hooked my old winegard RM 9946 up and satellite moved all over the place but never locked on anything. he thinks circuit board for system is shot...what are good easy to set up new units..he said most domes are not that great, and suggested a tailgater which he said works with Dish network and sets up simple.....any other good reviews?

Yep, go with a Tailgater. It combines the best of HD portable & automajic in one.

The HD Dish portables like the 1000, 1000.2, and 1000.4 (the best of the 3 IMHO) typically require a heavy duty tripod and a decent signal strength meter to set up. By the time you purchased a dish, tripod, and meter, you've spent nearly enough to buy a Tailgater.

From what I know now I would not recommend a roof mount. More times than not the line of site to the satellites is blocked. Ground mounted is the way to go but depends on your mechanical abilities and patience level. I found a used stick & brick manual aim dish on eBay for $30. With a tripod and signal meter my costs are a bit less than $100. Aiming can be difficult at first. I can now get mine sighted on the satellites in about 10 minutes. Otherwise I would go with a self pointing carry out.

One thing about your system is you might need to check if the dish is configured for the service provider. My antenna has dip switches inside the dome I had to reset to work with Dish Network. You might be having the same problem. Didn't try the receiver before I checked the switch settings so I don't know what it would do if they are wrong.

I have the KingDome dual LNB (two receivers)in motion on the roof. So far it has worked great in my driveway and momentarily in one campground out of three. To many obstructions for the dome to lock onto anything. After a lot of research I found that for us unfortunate souls in the north east the bulk of the dish network satellites are out of range. I have since switched it over to the dish network eastern arc satellites (61.5, 72, 77) and it seems to work fine. I also recently bought the Wineguard CarryOut 1518 portable automatic system for when the rooftop KingDome is blocked. I set it to receive the dish network eastern arc satellites and it works great. The Wineguard is fully automatic and once set up will switch between satellites as needed. It is also fully HD compatible and will accommodate two receivers so you can watch two separate channels/tv's at the same time. It can use all sat providers (Dish, Directv, Bell). I think that the Dish Tailgater can only use the Dish satellites and connect just one receiver.

Perhaps the previous owner had the dish set for Direct TV and it needs to be reset to Dish.
The manual can be downloaded HERE
It explains how to set it up for either supplier.

We have a TracStar (Orlando FL) and we just had our software upgraded. The sat guy (Sats2Go Houston TX) hooked up his laptop and upgraded it. We also had to replace the LNB in the dome dish once because it went bad. Might be a simple fix. What brand dome is it?

The satellite tech checked the control box on the roof and its bad...so I am just gonna get a traveler for the dish. I dont use the bedroom tv, and have an outside tv that I can use by moving the receiver there easily......simplest way to get it done.......thanks for all the advice and assistance.....my todo list is shrinking getting this coach set up correctly!
