Ford F250 and 27' fifth wheel. 1. Should I add air pressure before attaching my fifth wheel? or after it is attached? How do you know the best PSI to use?

When the 5th wheel is not attached I run at about 12lbs PSI.

The air helper springs are Firestones

Hitch the loaded trailer up and inflate the air bags to just bring the truck back to level. That is if you actually need to.

I think everyone is different. I add the air before hooking up up. I run at 45 psi and I came to that number by just trying different numbers until I zeroed in on what felt best to me.

I don't air up before because it makes the hitch about 4 inches higher. I don't care if the truck is level, just the ride. I would experiment between 25-40 for your FW....for us it keeps the truck bed from bouncing a lot on rougher roads.... When I had 40 psi in them, it sure was rough. Now I run about 27psi. That is 20 pumps a side with the bike pump. Just enough to keep the weight off the overloads and give a little spring but keeps the load nice and steady. When we stop, I let the air out before I disconnect. Brings the truck down lower so the landing gear doesn't have as far to go!

I air up after hitched and have experimented with different amounts of air and find 25#-35# works best. I also only pump up enough to keep off the overloads.

If your owners manual doesnt tell you how to use it then contact the manufacturer and ask.

I keep mine at 30lbs. I like the feel at that pressure.
