Hello friends.
I recently had to get rid of my Dodge 3500 megacab for fincaial reasons now my question is I promised the kids a trip to fun valley CO. this summer. I have a Keystone 2920BH it's 31 foot and total weight is about 6200 loaded. I'm THINKING of making the 550 mile trip with my soon to be's 2005 yukon. It has the 5.3 and 3.73 gears I'm planning on adding a large trans cooler, brake controller and air bags to back. Now does anyone have any experience with pulling trailer with this vechile? It is not a every weekend thing just mainly this one trip. Other times will be to the lake about 70 miles from home on flat ground.

Any insight would appreciated.

Will it pull it? Will you like the drive? No way Jose. It will be the worst 550 miles of your life. Sway, overloading, extremely poor fuel economy are just three of the problems you could face.

Based off of this info:

Width: 78.8 in.
Height: 75.8 in.
Length: 219.3 in.
Ground clearance: 8.4 in.
Front track: 65 in.
Rear track: 66 in.
Wheel base: 130 in.
Cargo capacity, all seats in place: 45.7 cu.ft.
Maximum cargo capacity: 131.6 cu.ft.
Maximum towing capacity: 8400 lbs.**
Maximum payload: 1732 lbs.**
Gross weight: 7000 lbs.

You will be fine. Just make sure you have some sway control devices. I tow with my Armada a 31ft with 7200lbs with no issue. My Armada wheelbase is 123 inches.

Should be no problem but loose the air bags and get a good WD hitch. Air bags will not replace the weight on the front axles that is removed by weight on the rear and that's necessary for control. A WD system would ALSO be required to keep the tongue weight under the rating of the trucks receiver (around 500 lb. maximum when NOT using a WD system).
Good luck / Skip

I feel for ya, the difference/experience between your former TV and the proposed one is going to p**s you off, no end mate!

Ya going to be at ya weight limits and (I know thru experience, we used to have an 07 Avalanche) ya 5.3V8 / 3.73 axle means that when you come to even the slightest incline, your SUV will want to go down to 3rd gear if you want to go faster then 55mph!!!

yep you can do it. Pulled a 6000# loaded 32' TT for years with an '05 Tahoe set up like that. Like said above skip the air bags and get a good WD hitch. That SUV will pull it fine but not like your cummins. You will find yourself in 3rd gear most of the time with rpms in the 3000 rpm range. Did it for years over 50,000 miles pulling that way. No problems and that Tahoe is still on the road with over 130,000 miles running like new. Your not going to win any races though

All due respect, why is that a problem? That's what the gears are for, drop em as you need to. When you are climbing you don't have to always be going 65 - 70 mph. If you are passing or at the very least keeping up with the semi's, doing at least 40 mph + or - on a typical interstate climb you're doing fine!

I have towed by 6500 pound 28' Springdale and now tow my 30QOK North Trail (6k pounds) with an 05 Tahoe. NO issues at all. Doesn't pull like a diesel but it pulls just the same. I always get from point a to point b!

I think the OP needs to tell us more about his 2005 Yukon.

According to the online 2005 Yukon Owners Manual,
the only 5.3L V8, 3.73 axle configuration has a "towing capacity" of 7700# and a GCWR of 13000#.
And it is the 116" wheelbase rather than the 130" extended version.

I think the 8400# towing capacity is for the extended model with the 4.10 rear axle.

Those specs came from edmunds with the 5.7L. The 4.?L was what you were talking about.
