The swivel trailer is a viable option that I have tried. A friend and I built one several years ago and it worked well, but had some issues which were: 1. this kind of trailer requires a two point connection to the towing vehicle which usually involves welding or a fairly elaborate bolt on system; 2. because of the hitch system, hooking the trailer up to the tow vehicle is a little more challenging and requires some fairly heavy lifting and was difficult and almost impossible to do alone; 3. the unique hitch system limits use of the trailer to a tow vehicle that is fitted with this kind of system; 4. we experienced some strange handling of the tow vehicle when the swivel trailer was towed without a load. Because of these issues, we eventually abandoned the swivel vehicle trailer in favor of a standard trailer. I'm sure the commercially available swivel trailers have solved some of these issues, but I would consider these potential problems carefully before investing in one.
